Just wondering if you get very wet or wet at all on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride? Also, how scary is it? My kids are kind of wimpy. They don't like to go on anything fast. They won't go on Big Thunder or Splash mountain. I think there is only one drop in Pirates, right? Is it a very big drop? Thanks!

It's a very small drop. Although it did startle a friend of mine the first time he went on, since he wasn't expecting it. He actually yelled, because he thought it was going to be a big drop, then felt really embarrassed when it was so small. :>

Right after the drop is a scene with a pirate ship firing cannons, and they make very small splashes.. you might get hit with a few drops, nothing more.

It's not scary but it is very dark. It's pretty loud when the cannons are firing at you also. But never scared my kids and they've rode since they were 8 months old.

no you don't get wet but it is dark. I think it is kinda lame but I'm not into pirates.

Thanks for the replies! I don't know if my kids will ride it, but maybe they will try it once we get there and they see it.

Yes, you can get wet on Pirates. In the cannon area after the drop there are splashes that come up out of the water and I have had them go on me. Nothing big, but it can happen.

My cousins didn't like Pirates because it was dark (they are 5 and 3).
My niece (4) gets scared before the drop, but then is fine.

My wimpy DD was afraid of pirates!! She didnt like the dark also she HATES drops even a little one like pirates!!!!

You might get wet a little if you sit in the front row of the boat. It only happened to me because when the CM put me in a row with 2 other girls, their pesky little brother switched rows at the last minute and took my spot. So I was sitting four-in-a-row on the very right end of the boat and got wet by a coupla splashes from the cannonballs. That usually never happens. So if you sit with just 2 other people that isn't likely to happen.

We went to WDW when my daughter was 4. She didn't particularly like Pirates, only because of the darkness and noise. She wasn't terrified, but did not want to ride it again.

She loves Splash Mountain, so it was the dark/noise combo that didn't appeal to her.

We go back in Oct, and she'll be 6, so hopefully she'll like it better this time.

The part right before the drop can be a little intimidating, as it is very dark and there is a warning about the "rough seas ahead." But the drop itself is teeny-tiny.

...which may happen if you're taking flash pictures around me.

Right on Ricktib.....DW and I were on a boat of giggly teenage girls who took a total of about 150 pictures while we were on POTC.....it was horrible. I was sure by the end of the ride we would both be blind. :wave2:

I am the biggest wimp when it comes to rides with drops, but this one I can handle. For the record, I am still not sure about trying Goofy's Barnstormer! :sad2:

Anyway, the drop comes right after the part where you pass the two skeletons saying something like, "Dead men tell no tales". The drop basically is the imagineer's way to take you "back to the pirates' times". :flower:

You might get 1 or 2 DROPS of water but it'll dry within minutes to be honest. It is the same exact ride system as "It's a Small World" to be honest with you. The boats are even about the same (different colors but the same). However, there is just one "part" that you will get the 2 drops (and most drops move outward -- hint). If you in the middle of the ride, you wont get a thing.

The ride is a lot more funny than scary. The movie wasn't a good representation of the ride. The movie was a lot scarrier than in real life and the movie wasn't even scary. In fact, I think IASW was a lot scarrier. You'll hear things for years to come...
