....to add on after you've just had a visit "home"?

Let me say that we own 150 points at WLV and I am perfectly happy right now. There's just two of us no kids.

We haven't even had our first visit home yet, and we have lots of family and friends who want to come with us. DBF wants to bring everyone, but I've planned out our vacations until 9/2005 when about 15 of my family members will be coming with us, so for 1/2003, 1/2004 and 1/2005 we will be staying in studios to save points for this big trip. Not to mention we'll be checking out some weekends which is perfect since we usually took time to go to other parts of Florida anyway- although I wouldn't mind staying put at DVC. To top it all of I'll still need to rent anywhere between 10 and 70 points to make the family trip happen.

So on one hand DBF is telling ME we don't need any more points, and I totally agree....then he tries to figure out how we can bring others with us and I tell him we have 2 options...RENT points from this rent/trade board or BUY more points. He thinks if we are going to rent from the rent/trade board often then we should probably buy more points. I agree. But he doesn't want to have points we won't use. I agree, of course I KNOW we'll use them.

I see the pros and cons to BOTH buying more and NOT buying more, but I have a sneaky feeling he's going to want to buy more points after we spend 10 days at WLV.

Hey if he does, who am I to argue?;)

So I'm just wondering....Do you get those feelings to add on when you go home?

I thought when i bought 200 points at the wlv that i had enough but less then a year into ownership i added another 150 points at the beach club. I want around 500 points but not now.It will never be enough and you are already feeling that .

Anniet,
I started with 170 pts in 1997, and I was sure that we had so many points that we'd never need more. Well, just 6 years later, and we are up to 700 pts! I seem to live from vacation to vacation, like I need a fix of Florida sunshine and Disney to get thru the months till the next vacation starts.

I have one question, though: why do you need to stay in studios in 2003 when your big family vacation isn't till 2005? the 2003 pts can't be banked past 2004, so you could use those pts now. The points you would use for 2005 are the points from 2004,2005, and 2006. Did I miss something?

Yes longer vacation time!
:)

In the past we have ALWAYS spent 2 weeks in Florida. Most of the time we spent in the Orlando area, but often we would travel down the East Coast to explore, or the West Coast to visit friends. We still want to spend the same amount of time in Florida, and since there are only two of us we can stay longer if we stay in a studio. --Oh, and maybe I forgot to mention, since this is our first trip home I booked the studio for 10 consecutive days, we won't be checking out on the weekend this trip, although we will be spending THIS weekend in St. Pete's Beach with our friends. So 10 days in a studio is 140points.

Does that make sense?

I hope so, and thanks for the question Cruella...I often feel like I have the hang of this points thing and then other times I think I'm not so sure!

YES! The more we go, the more we want to go. We just got back and we're are crunching numbers right now trying to figure out if we can afford to add on. We have 340 points and we're completely borrowed from 2003 so we can't go again for another year unless we buy more!

We own the same as you anniet. When we go to wdw we always get the 2 bdrm. But we will always fill it up too. As soon as we realized we would have to be buying points every year to suffice our length of stay. We decided to add on 100 points. We still borrow from the year ahead to keeps us there as long as possibe though.

Just a thought,
Lisa

Sure that is where it all starts the first contract, they treat ya nice offer you free stuff, give ya free icecream. You sign on the dotted line for that first contract, then they know they have ya. Next you make your first reservation, all is still wonderful, then you arrive and receive the "Welcome Home". Your senses are lured into a state of euphoria as the mouse weaves the web of the addon. I know you all said it after your first signing. "That should be all the points we would ever need". Then after a stay or two you think this is great I need more and the addon monkey is on your back. Then you do an exchange or go on a cruise, and the addon monkey still is there needing to be fed another contract. And so it goes. Your vaction time is filled with all those great memories and wonderful experiences, life is good. Having the add on monkey on my back has been great. :jester: :) ;) :jester: I am embarassed as to how many times we have added on. Did I mention we will close on one more contract in Feb. After we get back from the African Safari.:teeth:

Now if I could just start a program for us who are addicted to addon's. I could charge you a whole bunch to help you out and buy more points for me, yeah that's it.

DVC is the best thing we have ever done and will enjoy it every visit untill 2042, if we make it that long.

Just following up on Cruella's question... You do realize that you can only have a max of 450 points (150 from 04, 05 and 06) to use in your 2005 use year, right? Your response was focused on the studio giving you more time, not saving your points. :)

yes, Joe, that much I got! Thanks!:)

This year I'm using the studio for more time, the next few times it will be to bank points. That's what I love about DVC---the flexibility. In 9/2005 I'll need to rent more points to get a grand villa and two studios in Adventure season (that is of course if I don't buy more points by then! :)

Here's how I have it figured- remember August is my use year
3/2002- I banked 25 points (sold 125 back for MB)
8/2002 +150= 175
1/2003 -140 (10 days VWL) = 35 to bank
8/2003 +150 = 185
1/2004 - 80 (2 Sun-Thurs stays in studio at OKW) = 105 bank
8/2004 +150 = 255
1/2005 -105 (Sun-Thurs in a standard Studio BWV &Sun-Thurs/studio/BCV)=150 to Bank + 150 (8/2005) +150 (borrow from 8/2006) =450 Points for the 9/2005 trip

That works doesn't it? Well, I guess it will work if I can get that standard at BWV so cross your fingers for me. :)

I actually think I have a pretty good handle on it. I'm just itching for more points every now and then.

Now DBF's uncle is an example of someone who should NOT have gotten into it. He's 80 years old (although I know he can will it) he ALWAYS plans his trips last minute, wants to travel during peak times and now has 44 points he was going to let go in April until I told him how he could sell them, or suggested he give them to one of his children.

He told DBF DVC is NOT a good value, and I agree for HIM it isn't!:(

Scott- You made me laugh! Have a great time on Safari... when we first purchased DVC I looked at that and said, "Aww too bad we won't be able to do that!" Let's just hope the add on monkey doesn't make me that crazy! :)

Glad you got a chuckle out of the post. Sometimes I wonder if folks will take me too seriously. Life is too short not to have some fun and laugh.

We will report here about the Safari as I know other who are interested.
