Do You "Get" the Blue Man Appeal?

Perhaps it's because we live in a major metro area where both Cirque and Blue Man tour; but I cannot imagine "wasting" park time and the extra bucks to see the shows.:confused3

Evidently, this type of thing is a big draw; wondering if it's moreso geared to the locals or trying to attract a different target audience?

Maybe it's a combination of a little bit of everything?

For us, we do the parks all the time. I wouldn't call us locals, but we're two hours away and between day trips, weekend trips and whole weeks down in Orlando, we average about three days a month in WDW and USO. For us, a new show like Blue Man or Cirque really gives us something new to look forward to.

Also, maybe I'm going on faulty memory here, but isn't BMG in the evening? A good part of the year, the parks close at six or so, don't they? They do when we go, anyway, so for us, we wouldn't be wasting any park time to see them ... the parks would be closed, and we'd be looking for something to do in the evenings :)

And maybe it is an urban/rural thing. I've moved to the sticks from Miami, and I so long for all the cultural activities we had access to down there. Don't long for the crime rates or general high pace of the area down there, but shows like Cirque/BMG hardly ever come to my neck of the woods (and by woods, I'm being literal).

lucky you - plutolvr! Wish we lived in driving distance (over 20 hours for us:sad1: ).

I got an email as to "special" rate on matinee show for BMG a week or so ago from U or AAA.

we have had the blue man group in chicago for a couple of years.

don't think i would see it again in orlando unless it was an entirely different show.

it is a good one and a lot of fun.

watch the ellen show and see the clips about the bmg next week.
i read how the try outs were on another board, it sounded like a hoot!

Aww, Keisha, the grass is always greener :)

I'm originally from New Castle, DE, (moved here in '73) and come hurricane season, I really wished we lived back up north. I miss the food up north (like real Chinese food!), the culture, South Street in Philly, the art museum, Amish country, Longwood Gardens. FL is so transient; it's hard to make long-lasting bonds with people here.

Interesting on the matinee time. I didn't realize they were doing the shows during the day.

See, that would interfere with my Finnegan's time, and there's no way I'd waste valuable Finnegan's time for a show ;)

I don't get it! But I guess that's why Baskin Robins has 57? flavors?

Plutolvr-

Did you know that Sarasota has a great mennonite community, for when you get homesick?

The food over there is wonderful!

57 - Isnt that Heinz 57 Varieties? :rotfl: Baskin Robbins has had over 1000 different flavors over the years but I havent made my way through all of em yet!:lmao:

I think it would be a fun evening for our family to do 'once'. It seems Universal's answer to Cirque. I am thrilled another empty building is being filled. It's something to do when the parks close early one evening during an extended stay for us.

No, I did not know that. The things I love about visiting Amish country are the sausage, cheese and beautiful wrought iron things we're able to buy for our home. Is the Mennonite community similar?

The funny part about that is that the Heinz 57 was just a marketing thing. Even when it was started there were more then 57 and no one is really sure today why that number was picked but it does sound good.

Ketchup and Ice Cream aside, BMG and Cirque touring tickets are EXPENSIVE. I only checked one time, and they ran about 85 bucks a piece...and there was no guarantee where you sat. Same with the Cirque tickets.
The regular show tickets are a little less, and they're going to have discounts for a lot of shows. That is going to draw a lot of people who may not want to spring for the tickets any other time.
I dont really seeing BMG as something to pull people into City Walk every night....now if they had something to go along side it such as a huge shop or an interactive area that you can go and access anytime, without the show, that would be a big deal...after all how, how wasted is the cirque building? It sits there occupying space until there's a show...and thats not very often, as I understand it.

There are 10 performances of La Nouba a week. Its done twice a day Tuesday to Saturday. There are a few breaks during the year as well but mostly they are short.

If I remember right BMG is only going to do one performance a day during the off season but I expect the schedule might change based on demand.

I don't consider the Cirque building a waste of space even though there are only 10 performances a week the building really is not that big and Disney has plenty of space.

I am a fan of Cirque and I still find it a little strange there are 5 shows running in Las Vegas right now and there are several more planning to open over the next few years. For Cirque at least all of the shows are different and none of the permanent shows have ever been traveling shows. Also since the stage was built for the show there can be much more impressive effects done then what you will see with a traveling show. The traveling shows are good but the permanent shows are better.

I'm from the 'burg - cannot resist sharing the lore...

Unlike Rolling Rock beer's mystical 33 on the label (now brewed in Jersey:sad1: ); it's nothing more than a "catch-phrase". At the time the company had over 60 products. Owner just picked the number because he liked the way it looked.

many of us school children toured the old plant on the north side (now upscale condos:rolleyes1 ) and received this cherised token - our very own Heinz pickle pin

Forget BMG - I dont get the appeal of IVillage Live

todays show was about divorce and debt - it was boring unless you are going thru one - would have walked out.

Which stands for the 33 words on the label, (I believe) or the year prohibition was repealed. As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I have fond memories of many "intellectual discussions" about the "33"

Sorry to hijack the BMG thread, couldn't resist:)

Being a musician and in the recording/live sound industry, I'll be checking out BMG in October for sure.

I don't get the appeal either. Circ shows upped everything by having water in the stage and all the acrobatics. I guess the "hype" factor has really taken over bringing the Vegas style shows to Orlando.
A dinner show I can understand, like Dixie Stampede and Arabian Nights. There you get food, drink, and desert.

I guess I'm in the minority because I really think it "fits" Universal Orlando. Everything about Universal is just a little more fast paced and rougher around the edges so to speak than other area parks.

BMG is really a neat show (saw it before and will see it again in June) and I agree that it's a night-time event that seems to fit real well with the whole City-Walk vibe.

I agree. I think it fits in perfectly. And now there's even more to do at the resort. I can't wait to see it!

I think Blue Man will do well at Universal and agree that it is the perfect fit for Citywalk and the UO parks. It's a little less pure than the watered down Cirque La Nouba, just like the UO parks compared to Disney.

Peak season will have 2 shows a day on average for Blue Man and a less crowded month like Sept. will only have 1 show during the week and 2 shows on the weekend days. I tihnk they're being smart about planning out the schedule...but I'm sure it's all a matter of speculation at this point. Nothing to base it on!

I am kind of ambivalent on the whole issue of whether or not I "get" the appeal of Blue Man. I wouldn't personally go back over and over again to a show, but I've seen it twice and loved it both times. Blue Man has it's fans just like any other group and those people keep coming over and over again. If they didn't, Blue Man wouldn't have successfully running shows in Amsterdam, Boston, Vegas, Chicago, NYC, Berlin and now Orlando. Good for them I say!

:woohoo:
