Do you get sick at Disney?

I have been to WDW 27 times and have been sick on several trips. We have stopped travelling during hot weather as I have a very difficult time dealing with the heat. I have had stomach problems twice, but I believe it was heat-related. We now enjoy travelling in October (our favorite), Nov. and Dec. I have had lots of colds at WDW and almost always lose my voice the first day there. I don't know if it's the temperature change or what! I don't think I'm catching something while I'm there though because I usually get sick the first or second day. So either I'm picking something up at home (we are now travelling at the beginning of flu season...) or I'm just reacting to the change in environment.

My 2-yo was very sick during our last trip, but she became ill (cold, fever) the first or second day we were there. My 4-yo has never been sick at WDW in 6 trips, and my DH has never been sick there after many, many trips.

Interesting thread! Thanks for the tips!

Interesting and helpful thread. Airtravel contributes to some of the illness; just imagine all the germy air that is recirculated. May be paranoid, but I try to avoid travel during winter months due to this.

Handgels are excellent. I buy small bottles and place in everyone's fanny packs. My mother drove my dad and I crazy Dec. '02, during peak of Norwalk virus, with her constant nagging and wiping down of surfaces and utensils with antiseptic wipes, but we stayed healthy so can't complain. I also am a strong believer is plenty of rest and balanced diet, supplemented with zinc when needed. I swear by Zycam nasal spray and Coldeeze lozenges. My daughter and I use them at first sign of sore throat or sniffles and have not had a cold in a few years.

Never and hopefully it'll stay that way!!

Actually we were down last week and were just getting over sinus infections (all three of us) and that FL air really helped us! My sinuses love being in FL!!!! :teeth:

Our family of 4 (now 5) was horribly sick from day1 of our 10 day Disney trip in 1999. We had fevers, vomiting...congestion...it was awful....I think maybe we got it on the plane, but however we got it, it caused us a huge problem...we wasted lots of money and FUN! So sad...most of the time we spent in our expensive room...coughing, and being sad:( and buying $12 bowls of chicken soup from room service...yuck!

BUT, we are going to try again in 21 days....at least 2 of us!!!:bounce: wish us LUCK!

*ps I don't blame it on Disney...but anywhere you have this high of a concentration of people, you will have more germs and thus exposure to illness!

I NEVER get sick at home. My DH gets sick more than I do and he's very rarely sick either. My DD-16 is sick ALL the time with some cold and my DS-6 is sick half as much as DD. They never get sick at WDW and I ALWAYS do. I use the anti-bac spray/gel, and and I take a fat package of anti-bac wipes and use them like crazy and I still get sick. At least one day, my head is in the toilet. I hate it. I agree that your body gets use to certain organisms in your home water that your immune to but when you go drinking other water, you body might rebel. I have now taken to drinking only bottled water and hopefully I'll stay healthy on our next trip.

I think that the reason so many people get sick at Disney is because people who are SICK go to Disney and spread their germs without thinking of other people. If someone is sick, even with a cold, they should not be out spreading their germs to any and everyone. If someone gets sick while on vacation at Disney, they should shorten their trip and go home but instead they go out and spread their sickness all around.
