I think back in 05 I only got #s for dh & myself, thinking kids mileage would go on ours (not that it matters since we haven't flown since). But, I was curious if we should/could set up separate accounts for the kids?

My 10 year old has a RR#, a Delta Skymiles Account, and a JetBlue True Blue account. Those are our 3 airlines of choice.

Yes, I don't think it will appear on yours. It says on their web-site that children may open RR accounts. As a matter of fact, our three kids had flown one less flight than DH and I, and they all got an award ticket and we did not. Apparently, SWA occassionally gives out "bonus" miles to certain accounts, and our 3 kids got some and we did not. So...this trip they are flying for only $5/ a piece!

If you're flying Southwest, you can't accrue Rapid Rewards credits on your accounts for your children's flights, regardless of whether they have an account or not. Or so we were told for our December 2007 flights! :)

No, you only get RR credits for tickets used by YOU, regardless of who pays for it.

Our kids all have their own RR#.

I definitely would set them up. Just today I booked RR award flights for dh and our 2 boys for PHX.
They also have DM accts with USAirways and just waiting until we can all fly free to Cancun and probably won't try to get anymore miles with them.
I really like SWA to MCO.

My kids dont fly enough in 24 months to get a free ticket, and they would have no other way to supplment their points (with car rentals, CC, Hotel bookings etc)

And if by some chance they do fly 8 times in 2 years I can always go back and enter in past flight credits :-)

Just for clarification, Southwest does not use mileage for their Rapid Rewards. They use number of flights, i.e. PHL to MCO roundtrip is 2 Rapid Reward credits, and 16 are required for an award. You can use your SWA RR Visa to add credits...$1200 equals 1 credit. We got December's offer of 1 credit for every $100 on a SWA Gift Card up to 5 credits, and we both bought $500 gift cards. We will use them anyway, and they were charged on our SWA Visa anyway. Then the credits for hotels and rental cars. Flying free is fun.:thumbsup2

Wow, that was a great deal on gift cards for credit. Was that deal offered through the credit card? $1200 spent for 1 credit doesn't sound worth it to me, but extra deals like that would be.

It was offered through RR. The $1200 isn't as undaunting as it seems. We pay almost everything with our SWA CC, and get 2 to 4 credits each, each month. Along with flying once or twice a month, we get 4 or so free flights a year. We find it well worth it.

I believe it was offered ONLY if you bought the gift certs with your SW visa card. Otherwise we would have jumped all over it b/c buy fare vs buying gift certs to get fare = same thing, but I absolutely read in the rules that you had to use your SW credit card.
