Do you get Migraines?

I never knew it was a migraine treatment!

It is for the nausea and vomiting.

I do get migraines. They started again when my hormones started to change when I was 39yo and I'm hoping they will go away when I go through menopause. I'm almost 48yo now and I'm still getting them, but they do seem to be decreasing a little bit. I get a bad one (bad enough to take medicine--some can be nipped in the bud with the meds, but others can't be and last for a good day or two, with residual pain for longer).

Maxalt is my rescue med. I've been on many preventatives and so far I haven't found anything that works, which makes us think that they are hormonal. I do not drink at all anymore and watch my diet.

I haven't read through the thread to know if you see a neuro, but if you don't it's a good dr to see. I'm going to switch to one that specializes in headaches.

I haven't read all responses so sorry if this has been suggested--

I take Maxalt when I feel one comong on - if that doesn't work and I have a really bad one I do the Zomig nasal spray- I did have 1 really really bad one once Dh (who is a doc) was ready to give me a shot of somrthign I don't remember what! ANyway he hsa also suggested Topamax (I have some but it is a daily med and I forget to take it most of the time!

I started getting migraines when I was around 17 or so. They were so bad, and apparently very unusual symptoms, that they actually kept me in the hospital for a few days. I was put on Topamax, but only took it for about a week, before I developed a bad rash on it. It actually happened on a cruise, and we called the doctor from the infirmary because I itched so bad, and my skin was all red. She told me to stop the Topamax right away, and I got a shot of Benadryl.

Imitrex doesn't work for me, it actually makes them worse for some reason. Relpax as OK, but they would just knock me out. Now, I just take a couple Excedrin. The only thing with that is that the caffeine in them keeps me up all night, so if I get one in the evening like I did last night, I can't fall asleep until 4 am.

Actually, I hear yours may be worse. My MIL had them, which was odd since they are more common in men. She also took fioricet. Do yours cycle in the same day or are they over a several days?

Mine may cluster several times a day for 1 day skip a day or two then come back or may cluster several times a day for several days. My worst episode was 2-3 times a day for 3 weeks. And yes your right it happens more in men.

I get very mild migraines. I didn't even realize that was what they were, but when I told my DR that I keep getting really bad sinus headaches that last for days, she told me they were migraines. She gave me maxalt, and told me it would be both diagnostic and helpful. She told me that it would only work on a migraine. Sure enough the next time I got a sinus headache, it was a migraine.

I don't get (or at least recognize) triggers, so I only take maxalt after one begins. I do still get actual sinus headaches, and I can use a nasal spray and tylenol sinus for those. If it does not go away in a few hours, I will take a maxalt.

I love the maxalt! It works within 15 minutes for me, and it feels so good to not have the headache anymore! It does make me loopy though. I can't drive, or really even function.

I also take Maxalt for my Migrains. How many "pills" are you folks allowed to take per month? The reason I ask is the last time I called the Dr. wanting my Rx renewed I had him write it out instead of calling it in. I was going to go through my insurance co. and get 3 months for the price of 2. Well he only wrote it for 6 pills a month. When I called him about it he chewed me out saying if I was taking more than that in one month I needed to come back in and "we'd" try something else, that taking more than 6 in one month could cause a stroke....wish the hell he'd told me that 5 years ago when I started taking them as I've taken 12 in one week!!! I've tried the topamx...talk about making you one psyso b##$^!!! I took myself off that stuff! My migrains have calmed down in the last year or so, don't know why except I'm getting older... I have the same triggers as alot of you, lack of sleep, food, stress, weather, sinus headaches that change to migrains. Anyone else get a major pain in their neck when they get a migrain? That's one thing I don't think I've seen mentioned. : to you all.

I do. It feels like someone karate chops you in the back of the neck doesn't it? For the longest, I did not relate them. I have fibro and thought it was the muscles. The neuro said nope, it was another "blessing". It's not that common the way he talked. Sometimes, it can go into your shoulder. I've never heard that about 6 in a month being a problem. I was told that if 1 didn't totally finish off the migraine to take another in about 45-60 min. If that doesn't work, I had to go to the pain meds. You cannot mix imitrex and maxalt in the same day, though. I do remember that.

I hope you'll feel better soon. It's raining here so I feel your pain. It's been raining here all day, which is always a trigger.

Mine is one that I refer to as one of the "functioning" migraines. I feel bad, but not puking. I feel like I have three levels-1)functioning with pain and light sensitivity. My vision is blurred, but can't sleep yet. 2) worse pain and nausea/puking 3) disabling - these are the ones that would take a person to the hospital if I wasn't equipped. The doctors still get mad at me for not going sometimes. I keep telling them that when it is like that, it hurts too bad to sit or lay under the bright lights. The part I hate is that I cannot be still when they are the worst. It is worse to move, but I rub my face and I'll try to toss and turn. It's like I can't help it.

I have a neuro that specializes in migraines. His office lights are dimmed.

Once, I had to drive myself to the hospital. It was at night but, the lights bothered me so much, I had to wear sunglasses. I feel you pain in more ways than one. Fibro stinks. The migraines take their toll on me. I have to lay down when I use Imitrex. I can't function with a migraine.
