Do you get emotionally attached to inanimate objects?

My first car was a red Toyota Corlla SR5, which I bought when I was 21 years old and had till I was 36 years old, and I loved that car.

I dontaed it to the Special Olympics too, and cried like a baby when they came to pick it up.

Naaaahhhh, things are just things.

:rolleyes1

We have this plastic fireman cookie jar that someone gave us a while back. You tilt back its head and it says (in a gruffy voice) "If you can't stand the heat, get your hand outta the cookie jar!". It's hideous and downright creepy! For whatever reason, I just can't throw or give the darn thing away. I suppose in the back of my mind I think it's going to come alive like Chucky and find it's revengeful way back to me!

Aside from that, we have a horsehoe that hangs above our garage door. It's hung in every house we own, so we're pretty attached to it!

i cried last month when I got my new car. I also passed mine down to my brother. I still have attachment to the old car and refuse to love this one as much. I have issues.

I held onto my very first car until there was smoke coming out of the engine and it was towed away by the Salvation Army! It was a 1985 Honda Accord grayish-light blue. I loved that car so much! :drive:

And even today I still have my second car, a 1994 green Accord, which I absolutely love, too! I thought it died last March (but it didn't, just had problems that need to be watched), and I was crying in hysterics thinking I had to give it up! I wasn't ready! But fortunately even with the problems, the car is still driveable, so I still have it. :) And it even passed inspection recently! But I know the problems will eventually force me to give it up, but hopefully not yet! It hit 210,000 miles today. Nice to see I am not the only one devoted to a car! :)

The other things I am attached to are my stuffed animals from childhood - there is NO WAY I can give those away to a rummage sale or something!

Only 1 thing. A teddy I was given at about 4 years old (too many reasons to explain why it means so much). His name is cuddles and I won't give him up for the world.

Myst

When my grandmother died I was given a few things of hers, two items which were very special to me; a crystal candy jar and a demitasse cup & saucer she was given on her 16th birthday.

Growing up that candy jar was a staple at Grandma's always filled with lemon drop candies for me. The demitasse & saucer I always loved looking at because it was so dainty and pretty.

Nine years ago (yes I am counting!) DH accidentally knocked the candy jar off the counter and it shattered on our tile floor. I was in tears and have been trying to find one like it since.

Let's just say the man knows better than to even breathe near that demitasse cup and saucer. ;)

When my grandfather died I was given his checker board and old wooden checkers. Grandpa and I probably played hundreds of games with that checker set. It is old and dingy but I love it and would never part with it.
