My coworker just informed me she was charged for using the soap in her DVC room at the Animal Kingdom. We aren’t staying in a DVC room, but we will be staying at YC and GF. Should we bring our own soap or plan to be charged?

No, you won't be charged. If you coworker was staying in a timeshare rental (either through their own points or someone else's), that's why they had to purchase their own extra toiletries. Most timeshares, like DVC, will supply a standard level of soaps, dishwashing liquid, paper towels, etc.. But if you want additional toiletries, you could bring your own or purchase some from the resort. That's because timeshares operate more like ownership, except you share ownership of the property with many other people.

We have stayed in regular rooms since we first started coming to DW in 1989 and we have never been charged for toiletries.

If you're staying in a DVC room on points, you'll have a supply of soap and toiletries in the room when you arrive. If you request additional supplies (or additional housekeeping services), you will be charged. This is because the operating costs of a DVC resort are paid by the members who own there, not by Disney. Thus, it's a pay as you go housekeeping system at DVC resorts when staying on points.

I am kinda looking forward to Disney putting in the bottles of tolietries in all the resorts. (DVC too, right?) No more packing shampoo, conditioner and body wash in our bags.

They've always put these in the non DVC rooms. Been going since the 70s.

Non-DVC rooms have toiletries in the room, as much of them as you want. If you are in a DVC room booked on points, you get a set to start with on the first day and then on Day 4 of your stay you get another set. Anything additional, you pay for.

By chance do you mean the dispensers?

Yes, the dispensers is what I meant.
