One of the questions asked of me when I made reservations was if we were celebrating any special occasion. I hadn't thought about it but when we go on vacation it will be our 10 anniversary and our dd's birthday. Do you usually get something special at dinner if you are celebrating an occasion? how much does it usually cost?

It varies by restaurant, but they'll usually provide a complimentary cupcake or special treat with the meal in celebration of the special event. For instance at Chef Mickeys they give the celebrant a cupcake and a special placemat signed by all the characters. This is free, and is different than the special "Celebration" goodies that can be purchased at an additional cost. Be sure to remind the waitstaff that you are celebrating!

A special dessert was usually brought out for birthdays. They would put Mickey ear confetti on the table. A CM told me this week that they are not doing this anymore:eek: since you can buy cakes at the podium for What Will You Celebrate? I hope this is not the case. The little extras is what makes Disney stand out from other theme parks!

Sometimes, not always. It should never be considered guaranteed unless it's been paid for.

1) Have your anniversary-birthday-honeymoon-etc noted on the ressie or on ADR's.
2) The CM's have a lot of leeway of things to do or not do for you.
3) It simply is a matter of the CM's initiative and how busy they are that day.
4) It also depends upon how much they like you as a guest.
5) Expect nothing and be pleased with any CM activities.
6) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . decorate table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . gifts for kid's baby teeth
. . . wine or champagne
. . . appetizers
. . . cake
. . . autographed placemats
. . . wine or fruit basket sent to room
. . . flowers sent to room
. . . room upgrades

NOTE: Anyone can get balloons and an autographed card in the room after check-in. Just ask at the Front Desk or Concierge Desk. Based upon availability and scheduling, they may come sooner or later, but they usually come. Also, baskets-gifts-etc cannot be delivered to the room prior to checkin in order to be in the room when the guest gets to the room.

We had a birthday and anniversary noted and did not get any extras anywhere. We did, though, have a fabulous vacation.

This is a great thread. My DH and I are celebrating our 10 yr anniversary too while we are there in March. We are going to be eating at CG that night, it is notated when I made the ADRs, has CG ever done anything special for your anniversary?

Nothing special or extra is guaranteed unless you pay for it in advance.

Out of all the years we have been going to disney, our daughter received a cupcake one year, and we had great treatment for our anniversary one year, other than that none of our special occasions were ever recognized unless we arranged something in advance.

We have gotten many things over the years...
ON our honeymoon a Cm brought over a stuffed mickety and minnie bride and groom

We have gotten tons of desserts...

We have also gotten balloons and a signed pic of Cinderella...

I LOVE! all of the extras the CM's do in Disney!!

:)

The other posters have hit it on the head: some places may do something special, some may not. Nothing is guaranteed and anything you receive is just some happy pixie dust.

All that said, we celebrated our son's 13th birthday at Disney in January. Here's some of the special attention he received while wearing his button:

- Birthday cupcake at Chef Mickeys (no placemat)
- Birthday cupcake and a King's crown at 1900 Park Fare
- A card signed by all the Pooh characters at Crystal Palace
- Double dessert (mmmm....lava cakes :cloud9:), a beautiful certificate, and a card signed by the every staff member at Mama Melrose
- A giant birthday sundae at Sci-Fi
- A free throw at the basketball game in Dinoland at AK

Plus HUNDREDS of "Happy Birthdays!" from the CM's, a bus driver who had the whole bus sing to him on the way to AK, and a group of CM's who stopped to serenade him with the happy birthday song at AK while we waited for the parade.

None of it was expected, so everything was a delight. He had no preconceived notions of any kind of freebies, nor did he feel he deserved anything special.

Just have your DD wear her button, and if something happens for her, fantastic! Otherwise, if you want to be SURE that there's a treat of some sort, make sure you order a cake ahead of time, and maybe some of the extra stuff they have introduced under their "What Will You Celebrate" promo.

Have a wonderful trip!! :flower3:

Last time we ate at CG for our aniversay, they greeted me at the elevator with a red rose and then brought us a special chocolate cheescake dessert at the end of out meal. We also were seated at a window table for viewing the boat parade . :yay: :yay: :yay:

I think a lot depends on how busy it is when you arrive.

I would call and ask. I just happened to mention it when making our ADR and wasn't expecting anything special at all!

I don't think Chef Mickey's is giving the free placemat anymore. We ate there Jan. 28th for DS10's b-day & everyone in the room who was celebrating a b-day got a cupcake, but No ONE had a placemat. I looked.

We went two years ago. We celebrated our 14 year old's birthday and our anniversary. We wore our buttons at all times. Throughout the parks CMs called out to us with "Happy Birthday!," or "How long have you been married?" That was fun in itself.

At the restaurants it was different. Every place we were wished happy wishes, and the waiters always commented on our celebrations. Some places served a special, little, free dessert. Other places, like Beaches and Cream, had the whole restaurant sing Happy Birthday to our son. We were there during Food and Wine festival and many people gave us a bit of extra wine, or a free Canadian soup sample, things like that. We loved it!
