I put other. I can go to lunch whenever I want for as long as I want for the most part. I get paid hourly so I punch out when I am not here but as long as the job gets done our executives aren't all that concerned with when we go to lunch or takes breaks. The 3 of us that run our division have been friends for a long time predating our work together here so we manage the department by ourselves.

At my old job, we would get 15 mins per 2 hours work, so an hour for an 8 hour day. It would be broken into a 45 + a 15 or 2 x 30 mins. Where I work now, we don't get any breaks, no matter how long the shift. I miss working for a big company!

Not technically, but per our contract, we are to receive a 45 minute meal break, or we must be paid an extra 2 hours for the day. Most always everyone takes the extra pay and figures out a way to squeeze in food during our shorter breaks.

Once upon a time, there was a federal law that said that for every 4 continuous hours worked you were entitled to a 15-minute paid break, and an unpaid 30-minute meal break for every continuous 8 hours worked.

Unfortunately, that was done away with during the second Reagan administration, and very few states have passed substitute regulations.

I think it's about 18 states that have some plan in place now. I am in New Mexico, and we do not. However all my staff receive a one hour unpaid lunch.. I am "Supposed" to take one, but my secretaries all cheer when I actually take one (are they razzing me or just glad to see go away... hmmm....)

Where I work we get 30 minutes paid lunch plus 10 minutes during the day. Nobody officially takes the 10 minutes, but we'll stop work to read the paper or chat, so we definitely get our 10 minutes worth. The half hour is pretty flexible too. We can take it whenever we want and going to get take out usually isn't counted against the person who goes to get it. I bet they'd crack down on that if everyone started going out every day, but usually we all get the same thing, so it's not a big deal.
