Do You Gamble?

Also, I am too cheap that I don't want to just throw away my money.
My stepmom who has friend who comes and stays. She also has slots problem. Stepmom says let's just go in the bathroom and flush your money one bill at a time. It'll last longer and save you a trip!

I love playing three card poker or blackjack. I do on cruise ships and the occasional casino. If we go to Vegas, I usually take a couple of hours to play. My husband doesn't play cards but loves the sports books in Vegas. It's great fun to sit in the sports book watching NCAA march madness games, drinking bloody Mary's and betting. I usually have a limit of 200 when I'm playing cards.

Three times a week I go and play Blackjack and a little bit of video poker. Love it and won't change!!!! :teeth:

I go to Bingo every Wednesday night and I run the lottery pool at work. I went to a casino last year for the first time in years and was not impressed.
They are building a new casino in the next town over and should be done in 2019 so I might give it another try.

On occasion, when I'm at a casino or a racetrack. I'm a huge horseracing fan, so people are surprised I don't bet very often. My joy is in watching the horses perform, not in winning anything off of them.

Back in the day when drinks were served as long as you were playing (and you were good to the bartenders) I would give up $20-$40 to the machines on payday. Sometimes I was going home only an hour or so in and sometimes I was calling my DH at 3am to ferry us all home. :rotfl2:I never went over my $40 limit though. If I hit anything over $100 I'd cash out immediately. I had a friend who had such a problem that if I was done early would buy rolls and try to give them to me so we wouldn't have to leave. I recognized very early on in my life that a lean towards addiction runs very, very deep in my family so I've always kept a tight leash on those kinds of things. And let's face it, this city wasn't built on people winning. These days, no. Probably not for close to 20 years.

We met a couple of girls in Vegas who made a trip every year - left their husbands & kids behind. They each had a $25/day limit in the casinos. And any winnings from the previous days were off limits. Some days they could stretch that $25 each all day, and some days it was gone by breakfast. But, they said they had fun no matter what :)

If only everyone were that sensible. Then again if they were we'd be just another city on the map. I was the person you wanted to gamble with because I'd make people cash out periodically and give me half to give them "later." They always thought later meant when they ran out of money but I wouldn't hand it over until the next day. They'd fuss but were always happy in the light of a new day. Once I made my Dad cash out and he was pretty churlish about it but when he woke up with $800 cash in his pocket the next morning he was so happy he gave me half.

I find myself in Vegas a few times a year and will occasionally have some drinks and play video poker. I've always come out ahead, or within $20, and get some entertainment and free (with tips of course) drinks. For Vegas celebrations, I'll play some craps, but its rare, and again, I start with $100, or sometimes more if I'm rolling with people who start higher, and its fun. The most I've ever lost in a long weekend trip was less than $100 and it was totally worth the fun had for the time. When I calculate it out, the gambling entertain is WAY cheaper than the shows I see:)

I should also admit, I play Drag Queen Bingo every once in a while, but that's entertainment, if I win anything, great.

I can't. I have spent so much time as a poor student that I can't imagine throwing my money away. I went to Mohegan with my mom once and couldn't tolerate it. All I wanted was a beer and some wings! At least then I get something for my money!

Vegas still does free drinks while you're playing... well... "free" as in I'm losing money while sitting there waiting for my drink to arrive haha. When we go to Vegas I budget $100 a night. Sometimes I win a little, most times I lose a little, but I go into it expecting to lose it all, so anything left at the end is a bonus. It's paying for entertainment, just like if I was paying to see a show.

Well my husband plays Texas Hold'em every now and then with some work buddies and sometimes his step-dad joins (step-dad goes to the casinos every now and then too). He played a couple weekends ago and netted $70.

I've bought lottery tickets probably 6 or 7 times total.

We rarely go to the casinos but when the new one opened up on our side of the state line we went and I did the slot machines a little I think I net lost like $25-$30.

I went to Vegas a month after I turned 21 and net lost $200 (over the course of 7 days; ETA: all money was given to me at that time for my birthday with the sole purpose of gambling for the trip) but had the time of my life with my mom (we also went to shows and stuff so it wasn't just slot machine play). My husband actually is going to Vegas for a work conference in October and the last time he went (which was actually a month before me with just his family) he was 19 at the time so he couldn't gamble. I'm joining him there and we'll do a bit of gambling but it won't be a lot. We're not into gambling with a lot of money.

I don't see it as throwing my money away, I see it as entertainment and a night out with my friend. Really, the same could be said about paying for cable, paying for a smart phone, buying smokes, buying froufy coffee.

No, this was ALL NIGHT on one or two rolls of quarters. You did not actively have to be feeding money into the machine. It's hard for me to explain but it's way different now. They're much more stingy with the "free" booze. You simply can't get hammered for only twenty bucks anymore. :rotfl2:I do agree it is a form of entertainment as long as you are going in knowing you're never going to be truly ahead. It's just a form of entertainment I know could be dangerous for me given my family history.

That's why we can never go longer than three nights. I realized that when I started sneaking downstairs while my husband was asleep to gamble more haha.

My DD will be 21 this summer and I've asked to be the one to buy her first legal drink. I've thought about offering to taking her to play but she is the type there's no way she'd put her (or my) money in a machine. It's a rite of passage here but I'm pretty sure she'll turn me down flat, lol.
