Do you forward email without checking them for legitimacy?

I never forward e-mails, unless it's an especialy funny one that I haven't seen before (rare). I do debunk ones that are safty related, like the one that tapons aren't safe because they have arsnic in them, or some stupid thing.

I'll also debunk some of the political ones. For example, a friend of mine just yesterday sent me an e-mail with the supposed voting records of all the arab countries in the UN, saying they almost always vote against the US. That part is true, but what the e-mail leaves out is that all our "allies" (Europe, Canana, etc.) also vote against us the majority of the time. It's not so much they are all voting against us, it's that the US is voting against the rest of the world! Anyway, I pasted the info with the link and e-mailed it back to my friend. Haven't heard from her yet, but it's only been a few hours.

Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/unvote.asp

I don't even open most of that junk. If anyone has just forwarded me a file without even putting it in the body of the email I don't care what it is. It gets deleted right away.

I do the same thing. Unless it is a joke forwarded from my parents, sis, or good frineds, it is deleted w/o opening. I had a co-worker who used to send me a ton of Christian glurge, the kind of things that ended with "send this to 100 people right now or God won't bless you for the rest of the week and you will die miserable and alone." I am so glad she left the company!

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I usually send back the link to snopes referencing the same story. After a couple of these responses, I've definitely been taken off a lot of distribution lists. :thumbsup2

I do too. IT drives me nuts that people don't check!

You know what's worse!?!?

My Principal (an older woman and Nun) always prints off these "warnings" from emails she receives from her nun friends. They're usually the ones like "Warning -- Do not smell perfume samples in a parking lot b/c they contain ether and these people are out to knock you out and take your purse" or "Needles contaminated w/HIV hidden in coin slots of pay phones and when you stick your finger in to get change, you'll get AIDS". Every month, we get some sort of nonsense to pass around from teacher to teacher. Being the Kdg. teacher, I always get these crackpot notes first and know they're not true. I try to tell her to go to SNOPES before she wastes her time printing them up ... but does she listen!?!? No. So, I have to go onto my computer and print up the SNOPES discrepancy thing and attach it to the email she's printed up and send it back to her.

I swear -- she can't take the 2 mins. to check it out herself?!?! Arrrrrrrgggggh!!!!

My mom sends me all those. When I was going to school in Brooklyn and living there, I could understand it. She was worried about me and wanted me to stay safe. She didn't send them too often so I didn't make a fuss about it. But now that I'm living home again, she STILL fowards them to me! We eat dinner together every night, can't she "warn" me about all those things then? Now I just delete them. It's no use trying to tell her they are all fake.

PET PEEVE! PET PEEVE! PET PEEVE!

I just got the "do not call" registry one this week......Ugghhh!

I did get taken off of someone's distribution list one time b/c I would verify the story was false and reply to ALL with the link. After a few time of doing that, I now longer get emails from her. :)

I have a friend who sends emails like those all the time. It takes me a few seconds to look it up and forward her the truth from Snopes. She then gets a little snippy at me for doing that. Ive told her a million times to check things out before forwarding them. It probably wouldn't drive me as crazy, except she sends the same ones over and over. She will send it, I will reply with Snopes, a few months will pass, and she will send it again like its brand new. Trust me, my lipstick is just fine and not going to give me cancer.
