I'm not sure if you've ever actually seen some of these routines? You don't have to look at it in a certain way...it's right out there and obvious. I notice others who have had expereince with this (both M and F) are in agreement. And they're no all little girls. Competition ranges from little girls to college.

Add some provacitive lyrics/music while they're gyrating and it's even more disgusting. I've seen those routines as well at national competitions. ("shake that body"...etc, etc, and worse)

I am not naive. I just think cheering is an athletic and FUN thing to do. Wish I had been able to do it when I was in High School.

And yes 16-18 year olds are kids. At that age I wore a lot less clothing than I do now. I could. I did. I can't now.

yes, I'm serious. I could care less what those girls do, they aren't my kids. But to bring this full circle, if a girl wants to work at Hooters, wear a suggestive t-shirt, I see no difference between that and being on a cheerleader/dance team and doing suggestive moves.

theres nothing offensive about cheerleading...I was competion for 3 years and when id go out in my make up (glitter lips and glitter eyes) people would talk about me! To the point where i went over to an adult who was trashing me about my uniform and such to her companion and said "So, you want to tell me about my self. You say that i look like a hooker. You dont know the first thing. I work so hard to wear this uniform and I wear to win a competion, not to be called a prostitute by some one who doesnt know a thing about this sport. This make up is so judges can see our facial expressions. You dont have the right to speak on this subject at all. Do not say anything about cheerleaders....I'll have you know my GPA is 4.0 and I will not have you stero typing my teammates who you think are horrible people because of what we wear for competions to win. When you have national titles then you can trash us...not before."


That was after i had heard enough from people about how my parents were horrible for dressing me like a hooker and how i was too young for that.

I completely agree with you. My DD10 is in competitive cheer. They work so hard to get where they are. I also agree with the poster that said the skirt might get in the way of performances. The make up IS GOBBED ON...but a person would look like a white ghost under all of those lights.

why does everyone keep asking me that? Okay, I guess you've never seen the thrusting/butt-shaking/suggestive moves in some dance routines. I'm not saying the girls are slutty, just trying to make a point.

And I'm not a regular at cheer competitions , but I've been in the room with guys watching the ones on ESPN and football games during the dance routines!!

Yes, I am serious. By putting "slutty" in quotes are you suggesting that there is no such thing as a slutty dance move, or that people are just overreacting or what? Because some things are empirically slutty.

My niece was in a cheer/dance group. They had a routine that included a song by Salt 'n' Pepa called "Push It". I can't fully explain the meaning of the lyrics on this board, but take a guess.

Part of the choreography involved the girls (who were 11-13) spanking themselves, getting on all fours and wiggling their bottoms at the audience, and a lot of pelvic thrusting.

I really cannot imagine a "non-slutty" interpretation of that performance.

Yes, I'm sick of people pretending the suggestive moves don't exist, and they keep debating about the skirts, how tought it is to compete, the athleticims involved. Stick to the point! Some of you obviously haven't seen the routines. I wouldn't call it naive, let's just say unfamiliar.

But many of you know exactly what we're talking about it, and you change the subject.

In our area if a team does any of that they are immediately disqualified and never invited to another competition.

So, then, obviously there are teams that have done so in the past or they wouldn't have this rule, correct?

I don't think ALL cheerleading teams do slutty moves. But, I know that *some* do. I've been fortunate that my DD was involved in a squad that refused to let them do "pelvic" moves or wear short skirts. She did not go on to do cheerleading at her high school, but I was pleased to see that the moves are fairly tame. So, it's not fair if someone stated that all cheerleaders look like sluts. But you gotta admit that some do.
