Do you find that you only vacation at WDW? How do I get out?

Before DVC DH and I used to vacation all over. After purchasing DVC in 1999 and having 2 kids we now find that we only vacation at WDW. Does anyone else have this problem? I now find myself dreaming about vacationing at other places (which we said we would do because of the DVC flexibility), but then the thought of not going to one of the DVC resorts just makes me horribly sad. For example, we are planning to go to Disneyland next summer and I am already thinking, "I can't believe it! I am not going to go to WDW for a whole year!" And I am trying to plan a mom and kids trip this summer (with 2 extra kids) and I want to go to Myrtle Beach but I keep thinking Disney is paid for (AP's, points). I know I am rambling, but does anyone else find themselves not vacationing anywhere else? Are you bored with Disney (I say I am, but I just can't stay away ).

I can sympathize with those emotions! The only place I can get my husband to go to is WDW. We go at least 2 times a year. I have quite a bit of traveling under my belt (before we married) and I know that there is a whole lot to see out there.

So, what is my answer? We are going on a cruise next week! A Disney cruise, of course! I am hoping that he will enjoy it so much that we will expand ourselves to other ships that go to far away places. However, we will always go to WDW the first week or so of December. It is the law in our house.

I use my 300 DVC points at Disney and in future years will do exchanges from time-to-time.

But the bottom line is DVC is one week a year for me. I do other shorter trips to other locations. Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri...Las Vegas, etc.

Try scheduling additional shorter trips to other places throughout the year.

We do other trips as well. Some Disney related (Cruise, Disneyland) some not (Mall of America, Milwaukee, Vegas).

DVC has made vacationing easier and more affordable for us which is why I love it!

We LOVE DVC and WDW even after 8 years of going multiple times! No, we don't ever get too much of it, but we do also go other places. We live 20 minutes from the Mall of America, so that is no vacation for us, but we like to go to Hawaii about every 4-5 years, and we often find ourselves going elsewhere as well. We do it in addition to DVC though. We just can't give up those WDW vacations!

We only bought enough points to go every other year. Our kids are little (4 and 5) and therefore not yet great traveling companions to exotic destinations - they are enough of a challenge at Disney. This year we cruised (on Disney) just to find out a little bit how they travel when no theme park is involved (although cruising - particularly DCL - is an easy vacation with kids). This Christmas we will go to Colorado to visit family and do a little skiing. We talked about Mexico, but one of my sisters is expecting in the fall and doesn't want to take an infant to Mexico, so Colorado.

Once the kids get a little older and travel a little better, Korea is on the horizon (minimum age of eight - my son is from South Korea - but the tours don't start until he is eight). As is Northern Europe (husband was born in Holland and hasn't returned since he left as a toddler). There are wonderful places to go in the US as well. Mammoth Cave, Grand Canyon, Washington DC, San Francisco are all on the list for domestic vacations as they get a little older. (I suspect we will do San Francisco fairly soon - another easy short vacation with kids. Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Exploratorium, ride a Trolley, have a sundae at Ghiradelli, and play in Golden Gate Park, then back home. Given my son's background, I'll make an afternoon out of the Asian Art Museum - one of the country's finest).

We have taken many trips since 1997 2 a year since 2000 and even an adult getaway this past Nov. I say I want to do other things but I can't stay away. It's getting harder now that DS is older and an only child but he always wants to go . We cruised in 2000 just DH and myself and my son keeps asking to go on one. We have 300 dvc points and a timeshare in Westgate so we don't go anywhere else. Maybe when we move to Florida in about 2 years(far enough away from disney to not lose the magic) we'll do other things with our Westgate, like trade for Vegas, Arizona maybe even do that cruise again. A girl can dream can't she?!!

We really enjoy going to other places besides WDW. We own another TS which we trade to go all over. Last summer we went to the Smokies, it was a FANTASTIC family vacation. We are making our first DVC trip in a couple of weeks for spring break, and as soon as school lets out in June we are going to Williamsburg. We hope to do a short trip to Mamouth Cave in August. We have also been to Branson, The Dells, ect. Future plans include Hershey, Pa., San Antonio, and Mount Rushmore. There is so much to do and see in this beautiful country of ours. Yes, we LOVE Disney!!!!! But we also enjoy all of our other trips!!! Our kids are 12, 11, 8, and 6 so we are done with the baby thing and believe me that does help. When your kids get in school it is so neat to be able to take them to see some of the things they have learned about in person.....Lacee

Before our first trip to Disney we had traveled to different places, both Islands and in the US. Now, we just go to Disney. During the warm weather though we also spend alot of time on the water on our boat, so that is our other vacation destination now!

We go to at least one non Disney place per year. This coming year we are going to Disneyland and WDW. There is one other trip we call our History trip this summer too. Gettysburg, Washington DC, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg.

We enjoy going to WDW at least twice a year through DVC. This year like Crisi posted we tried cruisng(Disney Wonder) for the 1st time and loved it.

But we also go to other places as well. We are going to the Final Four

in San Antonio in 3 weeks. Going to Vegas in July, then to visit sister in West Palm Beach at x-mas time(plus OKW).

We have also been to Nags Head NC 3x, Sedona Az, San Antonio 2x,Austin Tx, and Vegas the last 3 years.

P.S. Forgot to mention we enjoy VB every year also.

Disney is like home to me, so no, I don't ever feel bored there. We have been going since 1975, and now with DVC we go three times a year. DH refuses to go anywhere else, although in !990 and 91 we toured Nevada and California--we went thru Death Valley in July when it was 129 degrees I do have a Marriott that I use for renting out usually, but next year I am using it in Florida. I bought it to use to travel to other places, but it hasn't worked out too well, although I plan to change that. If DH won't go with me I am going to go alone--I want to visit NM and Arizona, unfortuneately, it will be in June, not their most attractive time of year. If you have $$ of your own, think about a resale that you can use to trade to places you want to go. You could probably get a good trader for about $5000. I am near retirement, have extra time and $$, so I am in a good position for travel.

I am a new member but I already have 3 trips to WDW planned for this year. I am much more fortunate than most because I get 4+ weeks of vacation per year so I will get to do other travel during the year as long as I can afford the additional vacations.

I guess it remains to be seen whether I will feel the same way after a few years but I think I will be OK as long as I don't change jobs.

Thanks for sharing everyone! Like PirateParrot I get lots of vacation (5 weeks) I just can't bring myself to stay home because I know I will just clean away! Maybe I should consider another timeshare elsewhere. At least with the summer coming I will get season passes to a local themepark that allows you to use it at other parks across the country. Then I can make little escapes. I feel so guilty about being overDisnied, I guess I need to look at how fortunate we all are for getting to go so often! Have a great day, everyone!

Instead of Myrtle, go to the DVC Hilton Head resort.

Skip a year and bank your points for the next year.

Stay at WDW and do some stuff in Orlando.

I took the family to WDW in 98. The kids were 4 and 6 at the time. We had so much fun that whenever I'd ask where they'd like to go, the answer is always Disneyworld! I feel that maybe I should be showing them more of this great country of ours, but you know what? Our life is so hectic with work, school, HOMEWORK, that one week a year at WDW is almost like therapy for us. It's fun, friendly, clean, FUN, convenient, magical, and even relaxing now that we don't need to go commando style as veterans of the parks.

I do plan on using my DVC for other destinations, like Hawaii, but after just returning from WDW last month, I have already booked next year's trip! And the countdown begins!!!
