or do you live in a dangerous area/high crime rate?

I've always felt safe in the village, I've lived here for 11 yrs now, but we are aware that the odd crime is commited, burglary and vandalism, luckily both are extremely rare. We always lock our cars and front door even when we're home, but that has applied wherever we have lived.

I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, which I know has a high crime rate, but I feel safe. I'm also very trusting, and some say that makes me a bit naive. :confused3
I feel safe....

I don't feel particularly safe in my city, although I love where I live. I'm in a college town, but there's a lot of crime here. There's a very high rate of poverty and lots of drug trafficking. The rural areas around here are notorious for rednecks with meth labs, etc. There's a huge amount of property crime and a fair amount of violent crime (we were in the FBIs Top Ten cities for violent crime in the 1970s--I don't know about now).

I have lots of friends who live in the rural areas surrounding the city and it's like Deliverance out there. You have to have a shotgun. I am absolutely serious.

Just googled--our violent crime rate is 1.73 times the national average.

No. I live smack dab in the middle of NYC and Philadelphia. In the past 7 or so years, we have had a major influx of those from the cities trying to make a "better life". They brought all the gangs, violence, and whatnot with them. :sad2:
We had a state trooper shot and killed about 20-30 minutes away this weekend. Another was shot, and the suspect brought his 9 year old son along because of a custody battle. :sad2:

I really do hate this place.

I live in Chicago, in the city, and I feel pretty darn safe. Now, I probably wouldn't go gallivanting around at 2 am, but I feel pretty safe.

I live downtown Chicago and feel safe. There are ALWAYS people around - no matter what the hour.

I would never live somewhere I did not feel safe.

That being said - I am always smart and pay attention to my surroundings.

I live in the OC in SoCal. It is very safe here.
Crime rate is 0.24 times the National Average.

Yes, we've lived in the same place 30 yrs., in the country 10 miles from town. Altho I tend to think positive, I'm not sure how safe anyone is anymore, as sadly with tough economic times no doubt we could see an increase in crime.

Yes, I feel very safe. I live in rural Nebraska, we sleep with the windows open (if the outside critters aren't too loud!). I'd feel comfortable going outside at any time in the middle of the night, but I'd be worried about the bugs! We do have crime, but it's very petty and the serious stuff is usually domestic or people being stupid and usually alcohol is involved!

I have lived in my neighborhood my entire life and I feel safe. I will say that I love that my dogs are protective of the house and that when my nana is alone I do lock the front door. But I feel safe.

I fear the wildlife more than people around here..

Yes. I live in a suburb of St. Louis; while St. Louis itself was ranked #1 among America's most dangerous cities a few years ago, the suburbs are an entirely different world.

While I take reasonable precautions, I do feel safe. Random crime around here is rare and when it happens it usually involves garage theft (most garages are detached so there is less risk of being caught). No matter where you live you can be the victim of a violent crime, especially if you associate in any way with someone you know is capable of behaving violently. Violent crimes are often personal and can happen in the nicest neighborhoods.

I feel safe, my BF says I feel too safe and am too trusting. If my DH didn't lock the door at night it wouldn't get locked. I just don't think about things like that. i haven't used my house key to open the house since I moved in 5 years ago.

The island I live on is not safe but then again, very very few Caribbean island are safe. Crime and murder rates are higher here than the U.S. Luckily, I live in a nice area with private security so I am safe when I am home.

Homicide rate: 4.4 times the National Average
Violent crime rate: 5 times the National Average

I feel safe in my home, which is just outside of town adn at the end of a sleepy dirt road. We are at the edge of some pretty thick and steep woods.

I used to live in town and the answer to that is NO! Growing up, it was a great little town. It was bery quiet and everyone knew everyone else's life story. Mom and Dad were very happy to move here. Now,with the gangs from D.C and Baltimore moving in, our race track and casino, it has become pretty bad here. We have even been warned that MS-13 is moving into the area. Wonderful,eh?
