I hope that it does...DH and I are expecting our first baby in June and I am SO sick and tired of being so intellectual all the time....

cough..cough...troll ...cough...cough
....do we have a bunch of idiots for Presidents and mandataries running this country? God help us if that is the case!
I personally felt it was no great intellectual loss to give up my dinners out, my nth vacation to the Carribean, my expresso machine, the never ending phone calls on Friday night, "what will we do this weekend???" and all the other superficial things I did before I had kids. I'd had enough with the self involvement by the time I turned 30
One thing that I have found in the past is if someone is very angry about an issue that effects them and responds with emotional or angry responses then there is some truth to the orginal statement.
I knew it couldn't last.....The CB had been "GG -free" for soooo long.........
Now here's where we differ- you see having trips, dinners and the expresso machine (which by the way, I don't understand why you can't have an espresso machine AND children) as "superficial", but I do not.
Trips enhance my life and broaden my horizons, and are actually very deep experiences for me- not superficial at all. I find some parents to be "superficial"- like the ones who want to show off that they are a "proud parent of an honor student" by slapping a sticker on the car. That to me is very "show-offy" and prentenious.

And I do have to think, when you look at the big picture, its your academic types who have no or few children, while the poorer, uneducated types have the most children

My wife and I do not have kids, nor have any interest in having any in the future. Though I do have an observation about people (especially women) who have children:
The kids control and dominate their life and make them boring people!
The people I meet who seem to be interesting intellectual individuals do not have kids. These are the people who care about learning about the world around them, read interesting non fiction books, magazines and newspapers and like to talk about current events. They are involved in the community.
The women who have children like to talk about one thing- THEIR KIDS. It seems like they have any one interest- their kids. Conversation with mothers is boring. "Oh, Johnny has been sick" "Did I tell you that Johnny has had trouble in school?" "Johnny has wants a new pair of tennis shoes" ON AND ON.
So does having children limit the intellectual development of people who have children?

I happen to have a bumper sticker on my truck that says that! Does that mean that I am "show-offy"??? No way, I am very PROUD of the hard academic work my children are doing each and every day to make the rest of their lives easier! They enjoy school and sports, but school is #1. I drive proudly with that bumper sticker while my children are sitting in the back seat knowing that their mom loves them & is so very proud of them! In other words, I put in on my truck for THEM, not ME.
When I attend their sports I sit in the stands yelling & cheering for my child & his team. We purchase the team sweatshirts to wear. Does doing this also make me "show-offy"???????
Since you don't have any children, maybe you can show your nieces & nephews (if you have any) the kind of love that tells them that you are SO VERY PROUD of them!!

I just read this the thread for the first time (guess I have been too busy with my kids),, but I wonder if the OP is writing this stuff to get these responses. I mean, is he really serious?!
