Do you ever feel that there is too much communication?

In the last 3 minutes I got a

message from a friend who is taking an important career oriented test today and she's stressed

an im about a problem at another location in our company

a spam from my credit union that made me think for a split second I forgot to make a payment....

I'm a worrier and I really could do without all of these "messages" that make me feel that little cringe or panic throughout my day.

They're not even necessary, and I have no control to fix or deal with whatever they're about.

and facebook with my extended family!?! oh boy does the drama fly!

Am I the only one?

I suppose then you could just cancel IM's, email and Facebook and then there wouldn't be an issue.

Me, eh, doesn't bother me.

So jealous :thumbsup2

I wish I could, but I've got to use it at work. I turn it all off at 5:00, and I don't facebook, just hear about it which I find funny since I'm not involved. :goodvibes

I certainly do. To me, it's ridiculous the amount of people who have cell phones glued to their ears, or their thumbs while they're texting most of their waking hours. I no longer enjoy going to movies at the theater because of idiots who yammer on their phone or text during the movie. Cell phones are intrusive in restaurants, at the bank, etc. They are so annoying.

I don't mind messages on the computer, either through e-mail or Facebook, because I control when I see them. If I'm not in the mood to bother, I don't. But if the cell phone rings, that's intrusive.

I welcome communication (email, facebook, phone, whatever) from friends or family, but if it's someone trying to sell me something, take a survey, or get me to vote for such-and-such political candidate then I'm beyond fed up with it.

I don't think it is a matter of too much communication, I think people just don't disconnect from it enough. I deal with computers and communication daily at work and need to be as connected as possible but I also leave my phone at home when I go out for a hike or run. When I travel I don't check any work email and ignore personal emails that I don't feel like dealing with if I even check those. On vacation I rarely answer the phone for anyone and if it is work it goes straight to voicemail which I won't check it until I get back. On my two week trip to Europe in 2008 the only thing I did on a computer was back up my pictures every night.

I like having all the communication but I also know when to just turn it off and enjoy life. I hear about these people who walk around Disney on with their faces stuck in their phones or check their email while they are on vacation and I cringe.
