I can remember my first visit at Disney being with my parents and Disney being fairly new(70's) without telling my age! :thumbsup2 LOL! We had no idea about what we were going to ride, where we were going to eat, when we were going to rest, what day we would shop, swim or whatever! All we knew before we left home was that we were going to Walt Disney World and we were going to Fort Wilderness! pixiedust:

Sometimes I feel like with my reservations and all my planning of where to eat, what park to be in each day, especially with the new fast pass, what day to go downtown, what evening to swim, and now I can even reserve a time and place to see the fireworks! So tempting, but... can't I just look up from fantasyland and see them, or hurry to mainstreet if I dare! LOL! Sometimes I feel like we are a bunch of cattle being corralled by Disney! LOL!

I appreciate a little direction, and it is good to NOT be in the park with a group of people trying to decide for an hour, shall we pick A, B, C,D,or E! LOL! But sometimes the best thing about Disney was seeing it slow, taking everything in, without a rush to hurry and make the next reservation, the unexpected thing you did or that happened that made the trip magical! An unexpected reservation for dining (made after we got there by husband for a surprise) being on the boat back to the Fort from MK and seing the fireworks, or simply waking up with my parents at Fort Wilderness and a deer being outside our door! I still think it was Bambi! pixiedust:LOL!

Sometimes I would like to throw caution to the wind! LOL! If I dare! LOL! and just go to Walt Disney without any plans and see what magic would happen! pixiedust:

I am grossly over analyzing my plans as we speak with my wife. We only have 5 days total, so the plan was

MK
Golf/rest
HS
MK
AK/Epcot

Now we just had a full conversation about nuking AK and doing Epcot all day instead. We are 34 freaking days out!!!!

I totally agree with you, SouthernBell. We were just there in April and with all the ADR's and FP+, it wasn't as enjoyable. I wish we could wake up in the morning and say "Let's go to MK today." and then do our FP+ and decide where to eat. I felt too over scheduled. We have that in our everyday lives, I don't want to feel that way on vacation.

I will make a few ADRs during my trips and make a lose plan of what I want to do but I usually throw caution to the wind and it makes so much fun. I don't go in with all these expectations about what rides I have to do, where I have to eat etc. my husband is a very go with the flow kind if guy so we have a great time just seeing what surprises Disney has in store for us!

We don't have kids so I understand how this will change when we do but for now we are having fun letting the magic happen organically.

I over-planned my one vacation 3 years ago. We booked it a year in advance so I had all this time to think think think about everything we needed to do. We'd also spent A LOT of money on it-- flying down, staying at a Deluxe without a big discount, getting the dining plan.

It ended up being the WORST vacation EVER! Our flight was delayed, our room was flooded by a burst pipe, my daughter got sick, we got stuck on POC and had to be rescued by firemen, and a lot of rides were down. (We still had fun, anyway-- it's WDW after all).

The past two trips we've gotten discounts on our Deluxe room, driven down, not gotten the DDP, and played it by ear... we cut the price of our trip in half! -- and it's been much more relaxing and fun.

I feel like Disney now demands that you plan everything more and more-- with the DDP and now adding the FP+ ... but now that we've been several more times, we know what to see, what to avoid, and don't have to rush. There is something to be said about sitting at the pool and doing absolutely nothing every once in awhile. :)
