I grew up and still live in South Louisiana, not far from the Gulf. Shrimp, crabs, fish and crawfish have all been staples, not luxuries for us. Of course, back in the '60s, we used to get fresh shrimp and crabs right off the boat - 25 cents a pound for shrimp and maybe $1.00 for a dozen blue point crabs. My uncles fished so that was always free. We'd go crawfishing in the waters off the Atchafalaya Basin, so that was free, too.

That's just weird that anyone would say that. I went on an Alaskan cruise and while, yes, ship excursions were all about salmon bakes, etc, I didn't notice anything about the restaurants. Usually port times are brief, and while WE specifically sought out eating seafood the ONE time we ate on land, we usually just ate on the ship. We saw plenty of places to grab pizza or a burger. Were they expecting steak houses?

If it swims I don’t eat it. I’ve never been a big fan of seafood/fish but the last 2 times I ate it, I was sick all night. I expect seafood/fish in coastal areas but I’ll look for something else to eat.

Eat it and LOVE it; practically everything. It was such a rare and exotic treat when I was growing up in remote rural northern Canada, except for maybe the odd local lake trout or canned salmon.

What's not to love? The pic (borrowed from Facebook) is from Tracy's Crab Shack in Juneau.

I’ve been there. The king crab legs were about $20.00 each but it was practically a religious experience. :worship:
I grew up in Cape Breton. Growing up we only got lobster when it was in season and we bought it from the lobster fishermen's shacks. We would cook it at home and eat it mostly hot, although leftover lobster is one of my favourite things.

I could live on fish and seafood. The only thing I don't do is raw oysters.
 What on earth is leftover lobster? ;)

Most of the time, I don't eat it. I don't like how most shellfish taste (it's a texture thing). Stuff like lobster or crab? Tastes like bottom feeders...yuck. After estrogen sensitive breast cancer, Dr said if you're going to eat salmon, make sure it's wild caught salmon, not farm raised. And most salmon served in restaurants is farm raised...which due to what they're fed, has way too much estrogen in it. So no more salmon for me! That's ok though. I don't really miss it.

Yes - I love seafood and fish.

I wish I was brave to try more seafood dishes, but I’m always afraid that I’ll spend the money on a seafood or fish meal and then not like it, so I stick with the ol standby things that I know I like.

When we vacation in the Cocoa Beach/Port Canaveral area we only eat seafood and fish. We will not eat anything else, because we can’t get good fresh seafood in NW Indiana.

I am not a fan of fresh-water fish. I find the texture of most to be mushy. I also don't like salmon. I'll eat it if it's what's being served at friends' homes, but I don't enjoy it. Also not a fan of crawfish or crab, but once again, I'll eat them if I have to. Otherwise? I love shellfish and ocean fish... I even eat raw oysters and clams, and am venturing into sashimi. I have never enjoyed sushi but it turns out my objections are to the green seaweed sheet and not the raw fish! I tried octopus sashimi at Morimoto last fall and the flavor was OK, but it was almost impossible to bite/chew. That's OK.. I still love it grilled (but also struggle with killing/eating such amazing, intelligent creatures.. my octopus days are probably over).

I share octopus guilt, in spite of its deliciousness. Same with lobster, refuse to buy them live and cook at home (and rarely eat them out, but that’s more of a cost issue). We cook mussels and clams at home, and I have guilt over that (but so tasty).

I eat mostly seafood and shellfish but eat very little meat. I prefer ocean fish to fresh water fish but eat both.

Huge seafood fan love seafood like most fish but absolutely love seafood raw cooked doesn’t matter I’ll eat it there’s hardly any seafood I won’t try
My last cruise I tried several different fish I’ve never had before and enjoyed the in tremendously I’ll at least try it

I like shellfish. Give me all the lobster, crab, shrimp, and clams. We were recently in Alaska. My parents and I got the king crab from Tracy’s in Juneau. So good. As far as fish, I only like fish in my sushi and poke bowls. I am not a fan of cooked fish.
Husband and kids don’t like seafood or fish. They don’t like the smell. They went back to the ship for lunch that day.

When we buy a batch of lobster, I usually get an extra or two that I clean after we eat and put the meat in the fridge Theoretically, it's for sandwiches, but in reality, I just grab a bite every time I pass the fridge ;-p
You can't imagine how fantastical that sounds to my land-locked Rocky Mountain ears. :cloud9: We had lobster rolls every chance we got last fall in PEI and Nova Scotia and never got our fill. Hella expensive too $$$. We've got a dear friend who grew up rough in Newfoundland. He tells us in those days they only ate lobster when they couldn't afford anything better. Never even saw a t-bone steak until he came West in his early 20's. Those were so mundane on our table you'd be embarrassed to serve them to company. Such a fascinating difference. :goodvibes

Oh, it's still a splurge, but a feed of lobster is generally cheaper than a nice meal out. Certain times of year are better than others, depending on the which fishing zones are in season. During the summer of 2020, the Chinese demand for lobster tanked - bad for the fisherman, but I could get freshly caught live lobsters delivered to my house for $4-5 dollars a pound.

I'm too young for the days when baloney was considered fancier than lobster back home, but even when I was in university, it was a cheaper treat than steak if you were happy to cook it yourself.

I do not like salmon (unless smoked and cut thin) or catfish...but, otherwise, fish and seafood are top tier for me!

I love most of the fish and seafood that I've tried.

I'm mildly allergic to scallops, not really comfortable with eating stuff raw, and (as others have mentioned) draw a personal line at Octopus.

But apart from those exceptions, bring on the seafood feast! (And especially on a cruise.)

I am just not a seafood person. Having always lived in the midwest, maybe "good" seafood isn't available.

I know a lot of people love walleye, but I am just like nope.

My wife has family in Missouri and Illinois and seems that every small town restaurant in the midwest serves fried walleye. Never had it, in over 40 years of trips back there . But we drove across Illinois last year on Interstate 64, and the signs are still up advertising fried walleye still line the freeway.
