Yes, b/c we don't use ours for decoration. :) They only sit out for an hour or two during easter dinner. The rest of the time, they are in the fridge.

We either eat them whole, make deviled eggs or egg salad out of them. :)

Which reminds me, I need to hardboil the eggs!

This!

Ours our only out for a few hours - 3 - 4 depending on when the EB hides/kids get up.

Yes!

I have a related question: how long do the dyed boiled eggs stay good in the refrigerator?

I voted yes.

As another posted stated, our dyed easter eggs are more like a craft project. My kids had fun decorating them and then, into the refridgerator they went. We never used them for egg hunts or anything (grass was always wet and egg dye would run). Plastic eggs with candy/money inside was the norm for us.

Yes. But like others have said, we keep our refrigerated.

During the year, I have been known to color my hard-boiled eggs as well. I like to color them, they look pretty, AND I know which ones are hard-boiled!!

The only problem with eating them is which ones to eat first. I hate the thought of eating the prettiest ones, however, we do it anyway.

Happy Easter to all of you!

Hey, that's a good idea. I wonder if you add a dye tab to the boiling water, will it color the eggs while they're cooking?

Couldn't you just do the spin test? :confused3

When my kids were little and we actually hid the eggs overnight for them to find, then no we did not eat them. Now that my kids are teens and we do not do the easter egg hunt but we still dye them, then yes we do eat them.

This ^

Did you ever worry you wouldn't find them all?

It's like that episode of Gilmore Girls when they did the town-wide egg hunt and they didn't make an "egg map." The eggs began to spoil and they couldn't find them!

We do eat them, but as said- we also keep them refridgerated.

To be the really odd one, we gave up hard boiling them before dying them. Whole lot easier to use up 2 dozen decorated "regular" eggs in omlets the next week vs. hardboiled. (And yes, I have kids and we've only had one egg broken in the 7 or 8 years since I stopped hardboiling first.:thumbsup2)

The spin-test is no fun!!!

Don't know if you could put the tablet in the boiling water. Interesting idea, though.

In lieu of coloring the eggs, I will mark them with an "X" to identify them as hard-boiled (but, again, not as much fun).

We never leave our eggs out . . .in fact, we only dye them on Good Friday, then refrigerate them, hide them on Easter morning for my "adult" children (21 & 17) to find . . .and then they go back in the fridge.

We make egg salad out of them . . .mmmmmmm delicious!!:thumbsup2

When we were first married almost 24 years ago, I colored eggs and left them out in a basket on our table . . .they were very pretty . . .but I was never expecting them to rot . . .:rotfl: We came home one day and I walked in and all I smelt was rotten eggs . . .the smell alone was putrid . . .upon inspection, the entire basket of eggs were all rotten and wet . . .:scared1: I learned my lesson that year . . .:rotfl:

I love eating the eggs after they've been colored! We never use ours for decoration or hunting (we buy plastic eggs for that). We basically color them for fun, the refrigerate them right away.

I'm about as careful about food as you can be, but I have no problems eating dyed eggs.

Ha, never thought of doing that. Interesting.....:thumbsup2

We make dozens and only put a few out as decorations, the others stay in the refrigerator and we eat those. I think they add a touch of fun to the holiday table as deviled eggs:goodvibes

Eat them!! They are in frig until the hunt, then back in the frig they go or I immediately make the deviled eggs and then refrigerate them. I'll be boiling mine tomorrow and coloring them Saturday with whatever group of kids I have here. Last year, we used paint brushes and actually painted with the dye directly. The eggs were really cool! We had a couple of earth eggs, eggs that were flower centers, one with a bunch of grapes dripping down it on two sides, an American Flag egg, some Native American looking ones.
It took a long time and it was a shame to use them, but I did. I sent a couple home with the kids who made them.

We usually use the dyed eggs for our Deviled Eggs for our Easter Dinner.

I looked this up last year. Hard boiled eggs will last in the fridge for a week as long as they are still in the shell. They must be refrigerated within 2 hours of cooking them. And make sure they're cooled in ice water before they go into the fridge.

Funny story about using dyed eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt. My Mamaw and I dyed eggs, then when I came over for Easter supper she had hid them all over the Living Room for me to find. I found 11, she hid 12. We didn't do a count and sat down to eat. 2 weeks went by and she and my Papaw kept smelling something in the front room. They couldn't find the egg either, :rotfl2:
Finally she remembered where she had hid it, in a potted plant. They just threw the entire thing out at that point and opened all the windows.

Growing up we ALWAYS left the eggs out all night, found them in the morning and then put them in the fridge and ate them. Did the same thing with my girls, never once did anyone get sick.
