My SIL and I got into a discussion yesterday. She told me that she was going to send home our dyed Easter eggs to make deviled eggs out of them.

I'm fine with the cooking and preparing, but I told her that I don't eat the eggs we dye.

She thought I was crazy (and I very well may be...) BUT, do you eat the eggs you dye for Easter? :confused3

No, we don't eat them. Not after they have sat out in a basket on the table for days and days. They are just decoration and get thrown out after Easter.

Some of them, but we never leave them out. They stay in the refrigerator and we may eat them for lunch for a few days, but some end up getting thrown out.

When my kids were little and we actually hid the eggs overnight for them to find, then no we did not eat them. Now that my girls are teens and we do not do the easter egg hunt but we still dye them, then yes we do eat them.

Yes, b/c we don't use ours for decoration. :) They only sit out for an hour or two during easter dinner. The rest of the time, they are in the fridge.

We either eat them whole, make deviled eggs or egg salad out of them. :)

Which reminds me, I need to hardboil the eggs!

Yes. Throwing out perfectly good eggs just because they have been colored would send my dh over the edge. The dye doesn't effect them, they are covered in a shell afterall and we refrigerate them. We bring them to Easter Dinner for an egg game, leftovers are eaten in a couple days.

Yes, we eat them but we don't leave them out. We dye them, allow them to dry for a short time, and then they're refridgerated. We usually have an egg dying party the night before Easter or on the Friday. I make most of them into Deviled Eggs on Easter morning.

Yes.

The dye is food grade, so not a problem. The issue as others have said is whther or not they've been left out.

We eat ours, but they are refrigerated once we color them.

I don't leave them out!

I worked in food service for MANY years, so a lot of the food regulations are so far ingrained in my brain that I utilize pretty much all of the food safety standards at home. Heck, I even stack my fridge per the state requirements, especially meat.

I know it's weird, but I can't wrap my head around eating the decorated eggs!

Of course, but they're kept refrigerated. I skipped coloring eggs last year and my mother was appalled and brought over a few that she'd done so DH wouldn't be deprived. :lmao:

BTW, my mom is 78 and lives alone. DH and I have no kids at home. Since it wasn't like there were any kids around, I didn't think it was that big a deal to skip it but she guilted me into doing some this year! She even had called my dd to tell on me.;)

Yes, we eat them! They are used for food and not decoration or eggs hunts at my house. When DS was younger I always used the plastic eggs and put candy in them.

If they sat out for longer than 2 hours, I would not eat them.

Same here. :thumbsup2

Sure. It's food grade dye and they aren't left out for more than the 15 minutes it takes to do the egg hunt. I don't understand what the problem would be.

We use them for decoration and then we eat them after the Easter meal!

Yes we eat them, I don't know why you wouldn't. I couldn't imagine throwing them out, I even feel bad if after a long time there are still a couple not eaten and have to throw those out.

Ours don't sit out. They're only out for about an hour, two hours tops, while the Easter Bunny hides them and the kids are searching for them.

What is it that bothers you about it?
It becomes more of an art project than food I guess.

My grandmother wouldn't let my mom eat theirs and mom did the same with us.

Also, I've got young kids, and they DO know when their craft projects are missing.

I can't imagine explaining to them that I destroyed it for dinner... :scratchin:

My colleague said they don't eat theirs eithers... we'll revel in the minority.
