with your family? We always did growing up, its hit and miss now - sometimes we eat at the kitchen table other times in the living room watching TV.
Just curious how many families still eat dinner/supper together at the table?

We eat together at the table on most nights. There are exceptions when we have other activities going on. I grew up that way and it works for my family.

When we are eating at the same time, the same meal, yes we eat together at the kitchen table. Sometimes though, we have soccer or baseball practice, in which case DH and DS's eat even before I'm home so I eat by myself. Or sometimes, if we are having leftover night, each one of us eats separately - as the food is warmed in the microwave! :lmao: It can't all be done at the same time and stay hot!

I grew up that way and continue it for me and my daughter. I learn the most interesting things during those meals. Last week I learned that my daughters friend (9) is now wearing a training bra.:rotfl2: I love that she knows she can tell me anything and I hope it continues for a long time.

This.:thumbsup2

Every night. It is getting to the point where one or the other of our teens will have to work or be off socializing though. We're gettting used to just having three at the table. When I'm gone the rest of the family still sits down together. Even before kids, my husband and I sat at the table together for dinner.

Now that everyone is older, they are on their own for breakfast and lunch. (I do the shopping though.) My husband is having touble adjusting but until HE fixes lunch and sets it out for all of us that's the way it will be!

Most nights. It's a bit tricky during softball/baseball season but we still manage most nights. I have heard that studies show that kids who have families that eat meals together are less likely to do drugs:confused3

Now that I am a SAHM and not rushing to get everything done at night we are sitting down together. Dinner is normally done for when hubby gets home and we all eat together. I am no longer a short order cook, making kids dinner first so they can get baths and to bed. then throwing something together for hubby and I.

We are able to sit down together at lunch (the kids and I) and I'm really enjoying the time again. I stayed home w/my oldest for 2 years and worked from 2003- last month. It's nice to reconnect w/them now. They are 8, 3 and 1.

We always did but now that DH and I are alone most nights we tend to eat later and not at the table. When the kids were home though dinner was a hot meal and always together at the table.

The summer is very different for us. We are scattered all over the place. My DH is on shift, so he just reheats his meals. My daughter has soccer at 6:15 so we have eaten by 5. My son works 2 days a week, and gets in at 6, so he reheats on those nights.

During the year we are VERY strict on eating together, but we are really fly by the seat of our pants in the summer, and I LOVE IT.

We try to each together as a family as much as we can. My DD's are older so on some nights they are working or have plans with friends (mainly the weekends).

When we do sit down together the TV goes off...........something that never happened when I was growing up. There was a TV that sat on top of the portable dishwasher in the kitchen. Didn't like it then & don't allow it now. When my dad comes for dinner he always wants to know why we turn the TV off & each time I remind him, "We don't eat with the TV on during dinner, we talk to each other!"

We also try to eat a big Sunday breakfast/brunch together.

As a young bride, my MIL encouraged me to do this. It was not really how I grew up, but I did follow her advice. Through the years things got crazy with activites/sports/schedules, but I always tried to make it happen when it could work.

Now, my kids are young adults and have moved on in their lives. But I have to tell you, one of the greatest joys to me is to have them gathered at my table once again. No wonder Mothers love holidays. :)

When my kids marry, I will pass on this wisdom. Life happens around the table. There is something very special about sharing a meal together.

If we have carryout, we usually don't, but when I cook (which is most days) we do.

Always did when our 4 kiddos were growing up.

Now, whoever is here at suppertime eats around the table together.

I look forward to our meals together & family time even if my youngest is 19 & our lives go in different directions lots of the time.

5 out of 7 nights I cook and we eat together as a family at the table. The other two we wing it or eat out!:thumbsup2

Always.

Both DH and I grew up with families who ate in front of the TV. My family would eat Sunday dinners at the table and that was it. I loved those Sunday dinners, so now every night is Sunday night at my house. :goodvibes
