Do You Drive To Disney?

We drive. When we lived in Alabama, it was a one day trip, about 10 hours, because we made a long lunch stop.

Now that we are driving from DC, we take two days. We leave at about 4 AM, make a breakfast stop and have a picnic lunch at a rest area, then go on to Brunswick, GA. We just wake up when we wake up the next morning, the head to WDW.

I wouldn't think of going any way other than by Mickeymobile...

Is there another way to travel...

LOVE the Mickeymobile!!!!!
When it's just the 2 of us -- a Seibring Convertible and the open road (top down - weather permitting)
-- if we're pressed for time we fly (waiting for Hooters Air to come to the Chicago area:bounce: )
We've traveled with 2 vehicles when all the family went last year -- sometimes easier than getting everyone on 1 jet:) - and very hard finding leg room for the 6'4" 260# son

thanks...it's fun to drive and gets a lot of attention wherever I go...

It is so interesting hearing everyone's driving stories! I drive an hour down 95 south (near Brunswick, GA) to work everyday and I always look at all those northern license plates and wonder who's heading to Disney. I am always surprised by how many Canadian plates I see!
My husband and I have got driving to Orlando down to an art. We have ap's at Universal and try to head down to Orlando about once a month. Sometimes we don't get to spend but a day there. We'll leave around 3am and arrive around 7am, go have breakfast then head to the park, spend all day there then drive home the same night. The kids always sleep on the way back when we do a trip like this.
Most of the time we have a long weekend, 2-3 days to spend there, so we do the same, leave at 3am, get there around 7am, check into the hotel (very rarely is our room ready), then head to the parks come back later and get into our room and go back out.

We drove last Dec., I guess it was o.k., but biy we sure did not save any 4 by driving. My van only had 53k miles on it, but is a '96. Needed a pretty expensive repair to get it *trip ready* so much for the savings on airfare. OK.K since we would need the repair eventually we said it was not fair to count it as a trip cost. Fair enough. The repair we needed AFTER we got home...because of the wear and tear on the van...THAT one counts. We had awesome travel weather for Dec, but the traffic thru Nashville was so stressful! All in all we took 2 days (have 2 kids and we wanted to feel rested, not fried upon arrival) Also we spent a lot on gas, and with all the coffee we were drinking....a LOT of reststops;) Iwould drive again if I were in a newer vehicle, one that did not require any repairs, had at least 2 weeks, and traveled lightly. We had a ton of Xmas stuff w/us(visiting family) and loading and unloading all that stuff for the hotels was a nightmare! Added a bunch of time to our travel. Live and learn...I am glad we tried it tho. As much as I hate delays while flying, to me it is still less stressful as we are free to not concentrate on the driving and the crazy drivers out there. Going through GA wasdefinitely a white knuckle day!

We've done both many times. Pros for both-

Fly- I love getting there so fast, 2 1/2 hours!

Drive-
It's not flying, I hate to fly.

Can bring lots of extra stuff, pool noodles for SAB, decent pillows(BCV are terrible), stuff like that.

I love having the car to do to DTD and we usually go to Steak-n-Shake(YUMMY!) a few times each trip.

Usually cheaper then flying.

Our next trip we're driving down and stopping in St. Augustine for 2 days and then going to WDW.
