Hiya :wave2:

DF & I are due to move into our house early June. Currently we both live 'at home' and DF is having difficulty coming to terms with doing his own ironing!

I am refusing to budge an inch on this as I made it very clear from day 1 that I do not like ironing at all and can barely bring myself to do my own (I have perfected my speed ironing technique to an art form).

The rest of the housework will be split equaly, Him doing the car & yard stuff & me hoovering & dusting, We will share the cooking as we both need to practice & we have a dishwasher.

DF is in denial that his ironing will be his problem (I blame his mam  )
and keeps asking me if I am seriously not going to be doing it!!!

Has anyone else had this problem?

i do all our families ironing, dh has only been let near the iron once and it was seriously scary......never again
and he had the nerve to moan about cutting the lawn last week...its about the only thinh HE has to do, its lucky he is still alive to be honest :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was in charge ofthe ironing for our family of 7 when i was a teen. my dad was a very tall, large man and his shirts were like pup tents. When I got married i put DH on notice that i did not do ironing, so he could either drop his shirts off at the cleaner or do them himself. Here we are 24yrs later, and I still don't do ironing. Gotta raise 'em right, from the get-go, honey.

Do I do his ironing? Do I heck!

Get him to do it himself (unless you are masochistic and enjoy it as I know some people do!)

:teeth:

DF does all of ours. He is so much better at it than me ;)

Hi,

In our household we take it in turns. We both hate ironing but it has to be done.

The other option your df can use is to hire one of those companies that do the ironing for you. I've heard their quite good.

I do all the ironing but I do it little and often rather than a huge pile in one go. DH doesn't object to ironing but as I'm at home I do it all.

Yes I do any ironing in our house. However by using Bounce sheets in the tumble drier and hanging things up as soon as they are dry I get by with very little ironing for the 4 of us.

My lovely DW does all my ironing :)

Mainly because I'm rubbish at it - I can manage items as long as they don't have arms and legs :)

Dh does our ironing. He say's i'm no good at it.

Little does he know i do a rubbish job on purpose, then he won't ask me again. :rotfl:

Shaun does all the ironing in our house too! When I used to work a few evenings a week he 'acquired' the job then and even though I've not worked evenings for about 3 years now I don't seem to have regained the ironing!! Woo hoo!

An American question.

You Brits seem to iron a whole lot more than we over here do...why is that?

That said...if you are going to do the ironing (and I say don't) then your partner needs to take over the entire responsibility for another yucky chore...like...scrubbing the bathrooms? It has to be something you really hate!

Hope it works out!

:rotfl: Neither of us Iron :rotfl:
Thats what my dryer is for,10mins in on heat manages to take creases out :rotfl2: Ok I do iron but VERY VERY RARELY!!!!!!!!!

I'm the one who cares what the clothes look like so I do it! I bought my son an iron when he left home in 1997 but I don't think it's been out of its box!! My DH is not known for his sartorial elegance - I believe he ironed something when we were first married (in 1975!!!) but I can't stand seeing crumpled clothing so I'd rather do it myself!! However I don't do underwear or jimjams etc - only stuff that's on public view!! :rotfl:

I also don't do anything I consider unneccessary ie nightwear or bedding but I am obsessive about clothes ironing - they have to look perfect. I know especially with the children they're creased within a few minutes of putting them on but I still have to get rid of every crease first. I also tumble dry everything with a Bounce sheet but mine never comes out uncreased.

i use bounce sheets as well and my stuff is always creased, i must put to much in :confused3

I do the ironing for us all but only because I am at home all the time now. When I was working DH and I shared it between us. My MIL does not iron so DH had to do all his own ironing from an early age, his two brothers would not so they always wore creased clothes......they still do as one is now single (divorced) and the other's DF doesn't iron either.:rotfl:

We share the chores. I had a culture shock, what with have my Mother do everything for me  .

DW soon licked me into shape :charac2:

I have always done my own ironing since I went to university (though I did stop ironing my socks and underpants).

I never let DW near my shirts because she just doesn't know how to iron them. I let her do them once but you should have seen the tramlines! I even iron DD's school blouses on occassion. I also polish her shoes as again, DW doesn't know how to do that either.
