I keep checking the resale boards for a small contract as an add on.

We have a February use year with all our points. To keep things simple, I would like all our points in the same use year. DH doesn't think it matters (probably because he never makes the ressies)

Does anyone have different use years or do you all try & keep all your points in the same use year? There were 2 small contracts that recently came up on The Timeshare Store, however, they were October use years. I contemplated it, but then "chickened out" because I would prefer the points in my Feb. use year.

Am I just being goofy about this!

You are not being goofy, but we have two contracts and two use years and don't find it to be a big deal. Our original contract was a February UY, and the re-sale at another resort was an October UY...sound familiar? :p

If you're interested in total simplicity, then any add-on should be at the same resort as your original one, and in the same use year.

Owning at two resorts adds the complexity of the 11 month and 7 months to make reservations.

Owning two use years gives you two banking deadlines, and you have to just make sure you have the points available for whatever reservation you need.

We use Dave Frederick's point tracker and Caskbill's planning software and haven't really had any problem keeping up with two use years.

I know others have gone to three or more use years....that would be a little more tracking than I would like.

We stay with our same UY - December - since it is the one that works best for our vacation patterns

I would not get too fussed over different UY if your vacation times and pattern worked with having >1 UY month

For example, let's say you vacationed in March and November - that would be great for a Feb and Oct UY combo

thanks

We own at 3 different resorts and 2 UYs. (BCV&OWV-DEC and BWV-August UYs)

The biggest factor, so far for us, in having two UY"s is the MS CM having to flip back and forth between screens (between uy's) to book a multi contract vacation (points from both UY's) Calls take a bit longer. And you need to check your totals at the begining and end of the call... I have how many points left on this contract???

Also when I booked 12 rooms, pulling points from every contract, every resort, every UY, cancling a room here and there led for points going back everywhere.... and in one case left us with points we HAD to use by the end of the year. No bigggy for us, since we just swicthed out the points for a already booked trip.

I think of it like one of those slide puzzles, ya know the square peices with one peice missing, and you have to slide all the other squares around to make a picture (my picture is the DVC logo! LOL)

Now there are problems having two different resorts with the same UY too.... (in my case my Dec UY for both OKW and BCV) I have had a few MS CM's who will pull BCV points when I wanted to use OKW points.... so you must be very clear which resort points, from which UY (2004 or 2005)

Example... I have zero 2003 left for OKW all of 2004, I have 200 BCV for 2003, all for 2004. Now even though both are December UY I can book a vacation in 2004 with my OKW points (borrowing them) even though I could make the ressie with current BCV points. MS wants to pull current from BCV, so I have to make sure they borrow the OKW points....

It is a mess... but it is my mess and I know it well.... and love the dendrite building perk.

Edited to add (like I am not long winded enough)

Having to cancle a ressie using two different UY's could make you miss a banking deadline for one of the UY's involved. Esp if your UY's are far apart.

I don't think you are being Goofy. I understand where you are coming from. I have added on twice and bought resale once. I own at three different resorts but they all have the SAME use year.

But that's just me. It keeps it simple. Best of luck!

We have two contracts at two resorts and two use years. We use Fredrickson's program to manage the contracts. IT is easy to use and having multiple use year's is really no issue for us.

Yikes!! After reading Laurabears response, I'm glad our 6 contracts have an April use year. Very simple to keep track of. :D

Four contracts - same user year - April. Just much easier that way for me.

wanted same resort same uy, but nothing available bcv when i had the $ in hand
so here i sit with 3 contracts, 3 uy, 3 resorts, nothing fredrickson and caskbill can't handle
besides i'm semiretired, only work 2 days a week and managing my points helps keep me busy and feeling productive
just have to be like poster above, and make sure youy review with ms at beginning and end of phone calls

I am obviously the feebleminded one in the bunch. We have added on 4 times. All points are at same resort, same use year. So far we have been able to get what we want at non-home resorts and I like to keep life as simple as possible. I realize that I am in a very small minority here!
