Do you delete old MagicBands and cards?

Should I delete our old MagicBands and cards from our accounts? We will not be using them as they are several years old and we have an onsite reservation coming up, so will get new ones. Just not sure if we should keep them or delete them.
Thanks

There isn’t any way in which to delete them. They just sit there as “history.”

I still have my old MagicBand and I never considered “deleting” them. There’s no reason to and as stated above, I don’t think there’s a way to “delete” them. You’ll be just fine 😀

Go enough and you’ll inevitably run into some kind of MB issue while on site and you may encounter a CM who says it’s due to you having too many active MBs. Whether there is any technological accuracy to that or just a convenient “sounds good” CM rationale is up for debate.

I do deactivate my older ones, mainly for organization more than anything else.

We had a problem on our last visit that I didn’t realize until we were two days into the trip and then i had to spend an hour at guest services getting it resolved. We had 10 day park hoppers no expiry with six days left on them sitting in our account for a few years. Then our last trip included four day park hopper as part of our package. . What I didn’t know was that their system picked up our 10 day tickets to start using instead of the park hoppers that were part of our package and had to be used on that trip. I think they said that you have to ensure if you have multiple tickets you need to make sure they are in the correct “order” on your account.

We never deactivated either, and have over 30. But then we had one of those "Magic Band" problem trips, nothing would work, no bands would open doors, Guest Relations checked the door itself and swore it wasn't them, and we got told, as many others, that we have too many MBs active and it's somehow screwing up the system. As others have mentioned, the veracity of this claim is up for debate. But for the sake of ease I now only activate the ones I'm using on a particular trip, and no problems since. It's annoying, but not the end of the world.

But having said that, OP, assuming you have just two or three MBs each? I wouldn't worry about it. But you can deactivate the old ones if you want to. Your call.

I have a question reguarding this - you can’t use the magic bands you currently have can you? So then you aren’t buying them again when you don’t need to?

Any MB that is linked to your MDE account can be used on any trip. If they are older (like more than a couple years) the RDFI long range chip may not work as that one takes a battery, but they will always work for park access, unlocking doors, and charging as long as they are active.

Yup last 3 or 4 trips we have had the too many MB problem. I always have to go to the front desk to have them fixed because they won't open our room door. I've deactivated all of them and then I've listed them all lost. Nothing works. Once they are on there, they are there forever is seems. At least on there in terms of gumming up the system I've started declining new ones and only get one new set every year with APs.

Any card/magicband that is more than a couple years old has been marked as "lost" in my MDE. I don't want the hassle of having to waste precious vacation time at GS figuring out magicbands problems. Knowing how unreliable and terrible Disney IT is, I choose to be as proactive as I can in heading off issues. Though to be fair, 99% of the issues that arise are not from anything guests have done, it is on the Disney side.

I finally deactivated all of my 1.0 version MBs and actually threw them out. I figured I was never going to use the old ones again. But all of my others I keep activated as I usually take at least 3 with me to colour coordinate with whatever I'm wearing that day.

It is best to deactivate any you don't use. And to call and have MS drop any guests that you don't need on your list. Cleaning up your MDE helps make it work properly. I was told that a couple times when our MBs were having issues (or we weren't getting our room ready texts). Was told the more stuff you have on MDE, the more glitchy it is.

I am same. Just activate the one I am using on the trip (one each of us). I used to bring all the colors to color coordinate but now I have a DVC MB and just use that one and DH just prefers his blue one. We decline any new ones too. I think we each have 2 of the 2.0 version.

I have so many of them. I deactivate every year and then the new ones start arriving.
I wish we could delete them off our account without calling
