Do you delete old MagicBands and cards?

We had a problem on our last visit that I didn’t realize until we were two days into the trip and then i had to spend an hour at guest services getting it resolved. We had 10 day park hoppers no expiry with six days left on them sitting in our account for a few years. Then our last trip included four day park hopper as part of our package. . What I didn’t know was that their system picked up our 10 day tickets to start using instead of the park hoppers that were part of our package and had to be used on that trip. I think they said that you have to ensure if you have multiple tickets you need to make sure they are in the correct “order” on your account.

In your case, your non-expires were "prioritized" over your 4-day park hoppers. If you ever have more than 1 type of ticket media linked to your profile, you need to go to guest services prior to entering your first park and ask them to "prioritize" the ticket you want to use for that trip. After you do this and enter your first park, I also recommend looking in your MDE account and make sure the CM prioritized the tickets correctly. This was ticket issues, not a MB issue. Your MB simply pulled from the ticket that was prioritized on your account.

I have several times called Disney to remove old bands one the number attached to an account becomes unmanageable. Any band over 2-3 years old gets removed. Makes it easier.

Is there any way to recycle the magic bands?
The original MBs were said to cost Disney $4 each. It would cost more in labor to “recycle.” You can always drop off old MBs at onsite resorts but there isn’t any way to know what is done with them after that.

I collect a lot of the custom Magic Bands, so I'm not getting rid of any of those -- they weren't cheap! And I like to change it up a little each trip. So I keep them all deactivated except for two or three at a time. That seems to make it all work fine.

For the ones I do not wish to use again, I deactivate and mark them as lost. I was advised by a CM to do that.

Go enough and you’ll inevitably run into some kind of MB issue while on site and you may encounter a CM who says it’s due to you having too many active MBs. Whether there is any technological accuracy to that or just a convenient “sounds good” CM rationale is up for debate.

I do deactivate my older ones, mainly for organization more than anything else.

Exactly. This is why the CM advised me to do so. We only keep 2 - 3 active.

I have a long list of MB's and have most deactivated at all times. After I check-in I verify thay the bands I brought with me will open the door to my room. If any aren't working rather than dealing will GS & having them tell me I have too many I go into MDE myself & deactivate & reactivate any that are giving me trouble. They usually are good to go after that. No need for an extra trip to the front desk. I've taken to using a special code when I order so I know which bands are the newest ones without having to keep track of the numbers on each band. I've had CM's see me checking bands at my door & they question if I'm having a problem. I let them know I'm just verifying they are working properly.

I started deactivating our old MB's after a trip a few years ago when we were unable to get into our room after checking in. After 3 trips to our room and back to the front desk, the front desk CM deleted a few old MB's from our account and we had no further issues. I also call IT and have the old MB's removed from our account just to be safe. Like someone said earlier, the less clutter in MDE, the better things seem to work.

I get a new Magic Band every time I go there. There's 5 linked like a chain from my bed. I already have #6 and #7 picked out ready to use.

I also take old ones, my old ones are decorated & I like them. My trip this week it was particularly helpful as my 'new' band wouldn't open my room but my old one would. My new band worked to get in park, room charges, FP tap ins, etc. But, it wouldn't open my resort room.

My family had about 30 MB's each on our MDE profiles and ran into all sort of issues with opening doors, charging, etc. The problems lessened once I got into the habit of deactivating old bands and keeping maybe 2-3 active at a time. However, during a call with Disney IT about another issue recently, the tech helped delete the deactivated bands from our profiles and said it should make things less glitchy. Like another poster said, the more data you have on your MDE account, the more things seem to break.

If they're deleted from your profile, though, doesn't that mean you can't use them ever again? Or are you saying you can add them back?

That's the thing. I'll deactivate all they want, but I'm not deleting them/not using them anymore; that would be a big waste of money. I do what it takes to make my MDE account work, for the doors to open and so on, by deactivating, but as I've said to every CM I've talked to about this, you know, they don't tell you, "Have as few magic bands on your account as possible!" when they're selling you the custom ones in the stores.

Correct. When they are deleted from your profile, they are gone and you cannot use them again. I don't think you can call to add them back, but I never tried to.
