This is my first trip to Disney, so I am new to all this. I have made all my PS's. We are leaving on Friday. Do I need to call this week and confirm my PS's. My son has food allergies and MOST Cm's that I spoke with when making my PS gave me a # to call to confirm. However, others said that I don't need to. As a matter of fact I have called twice about Chef Mickey's and both CM's said that I don't need to call and in fact didn't even have a # for me to call.

What does everyone else do?

Thanks for the help.

How confident are you that PS recorded your PS requests correctly? I usually have the CM's read back my PS arrangement, while I'm making my reservation. PS problems are created at the time the reservation is taken... Double-check it on the front-end, and you'll be fine.

I never call back for confirmations... and I've never had a problem.

I always confirm our PS before we leave for WDW. We had a situation once where a CM mistakenly cancelled a princess PS so I confirm information before I hang up when making the PS and I confirm approx. a week before we leave for our trip.

Enjoy your vacation!

I've made a ton of PS and never confirmed.... never had a problem. I wouldn't worry about but do whatever will make you feel better!!!!

Sandymac:
I typically only call to confirm the hard to get PS (CRT, etc) but in your case, with your son's food allergies, I think I would go ahead and call to make sure that each one has the notation of his allergies and any special needs you might have....better safe than sorry since food allergies can be so serious.

Yes, I do. I like the reassurance that things are going to go well. I have my list of dates, times, PS #'s in front of me and ask them to read off what they have and then check each one off.

I've read other threads where some got to WDW and found some restaurants had not followed through on special requests/needs - that alone would make me double - check before I went.

Yes! I recently made some changes for our reservations. While I had them on the line I double checked all our PS's and it was a good thing I did. They had us booked for two days worth of meals that would have taken place two days after we had left.

I was very careful when I made the bookings so I know what was repeated back to me was for what I wanted. One phone call saved a ton of problems.

I also have a child with food allergies. About a week to 10 days before a trip, I call each restaurant (using the phone #'s that WDW-DINE gives me) and speak with a chef or leave a message.

I also call WDW-DINE about a week in advance to confirm PS dates and times and to make sure they've noted my daughter's allergies correctly. The last time I called, they had accidentally booked a breakfast at CP for 9:00 instead of 8:00, so I'm very glad I called to confirm. They were able to change it to the correct time with no problems.

You would call the WDW-Dine line to confirm your PS (or better, to save some money, call the toll free # 1-800-828-0228 and push whichever prompt for dining). You can also ask to speak with individual restaurants re your son's allergies. I have seen others post here on the boards that they spoke with the chef/someone in the kitchen re food allergies, etc. The CM for the dining reservations would have to connect you or give you the phone #s to individual restaurants...not sure there is a listing anywhere.

As with other posts I agree that if your son has food allergies I would call back and speak with each restaurant to make sure they are aware of things.

My sister has MANY food allergies that are VERY severe. She has had no real trouble with any of her Disney trips because either she or her husband call a week before and speak with each chef about her allergies. Admittedly some chefs have been more helpful than others. In fact, on her last trip the chef at the 50's Prime Time fixed her a s'mores dessert free of charge because he found out she had never had desserts there before because of her allergies and fear of cross contamination.

Again, it all depends on the chef, but they are very willing to accomidate, so I would call, not just to check PS but also for your son's health.

Good luck!

Skipping to the bottom. We ALWAYS call about a week before we go and confirm.. Can't take any chances. Usually there is one PS that they have spelled my name wrong or phone number etc. Just pays to be sure...

I have two children with food allergies and I ALWAYS call one week in advance to reconfirm all my PS. Once you get to the restaurant, always have a chef come to your table. They are always accomodating. I do this all the time, true it is a pain in the you-know-where, but you will have a more enjoyable time knowing you won't be rushing to Celebration Hospital due to an allergic reaction.

My boys are allergic to eggs, tree nuts, peanuts and one of them is allergic to dairy (though my son who can have milk prefers soymilk anyway). We had breakfast at BOMA, Chef Mickey's, Restaurantasaurus, Cinderella's Castle, Cape May Cafe and they are totally on the ball with foods that don't contain the offending foods. In addition, you will find that some of the "fast food" areas in the parks have a booklet for you to go through for ingredients that are in their foods. Very helpful. At the 50's Prime Time Cafe, they made my kids tofutti "milk" shakes which they loved :p !

Good luck and have a great trip!!!!!

I'm so glad I called to check my PSs. Our Mama melrose FDP had been cancelled by accident, I was told! The CM was very apologetic, and was able to get us another PS time, but it could have turned out badly if we got there and found out we didn't have a PS!

Another here with a child allergic to peanuts. I think WDW is pretty awesome about food allergies, but the last couple trips I've had a REALLY hard time getting the chefs to call me back. It used to be they would call back that day. Anyone else having problems getting hold of someone? I feel pretty confident about a few of our PSs since they're places we've ate at before, but a couple I would really like to talk with someone, especially our fireworks cruise that serves desserts. I've been getting the run
around on that one. :(

NeedMyDisney, do all the restaurants keep soymilk on hand? I wonder about chocolate soymilk? My other child has a mild allergy to milk.

Thanks!

i have never called for confirmation but this past trip I happened to ask when we checked in and at least 50%were wrong! most were just uncancelled ones that i had cancelled but they didn't but a few were ones I wanted but didn't have. since we went in Jan. we were ok getting in anyway but in a busier time i would confirm just in case.

I like to confirm my PS's - there's not usually any problems, but it gives me the peace of mind that everything will go smoothly once we arrive!

I am so sorry that I am finally responding to you and you are probably back from WDW and know the answer, but I'll tell you what happened with us. We did request Chocolate Soymilk at certain restaurants and they had it for us. Usually, we go to Publix and get chocolate soymilk for the room as I usually make breakfast in the room anyway. We may only go to two breakfasts in a week because though Disney is fantastic about food allergies, I still worry.

Hope that helped!

All the best!

I've always found that checking is a good idea. On several occasions DH's last name has been misspelled (it's a bit hard to find when 3 out of 5 letters are wrong), the wrong phone number has been used, etc. We also had a PS made at 8:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. And yes, I've had the CM confirm everything immediately on the phone, too. I think it's a lot easier to clear those things up from home rather than in a frazzle at the restaurant podium. We always travel with copies of all our PS numbers just in case.

Thanks NeedMyDisney. We did just get back. Chef Mickey's got us soymilk. I also brought some along for the room. :)
