My family collects both of these odd items. Not to trade or anything, but just to keep. Since they change the designs on the popcorn buckets periodically, that's kind of nice. We use them to put our popcorn in at home. But what else could you use them for? I can see us running out of uses for them really fast. We try to make sure and check the designs on the popcorn buckets at each park, and DTD every time we go to see if it has changed.

And room key cards. Right now they have Tinker Bell on them, at least ours did for WL a couple of weeks ago, and for our other two trips this year (since December) so we have a lot of those, one for each person in our room for 3 trips = 12 room key cards. LOL Don't ask me WHY we keep them, we just do. In 2000 when we went they had a different design, the 2000 where the zeros are a Mickey head.

What do you collect that has really no $$$ at all, you just like it?

My DW loves the Christmas popcorn buckets - we get a new one every year during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade - it's a standing tradition for us. She also saves the room key cards, in hopes of making a Disney scrapbook some day. Personally, I like the pins better.

I picked up a popcorn bucket the last time I was in Walt Disney World. I made Trina wear it as a hat to keep the rain off her hair. If anyone else wants to try that, I would definitely recommend taking the popcorn out of it first. We were there in April and every once in a while I still find popcorn kernals on her pillow after a night's sleeping. Personally I think that the butter makes the gray in her hair glisten but that might just be me since whenever I mention it I end up sleeping on the couch for a few nights.

I have 3 popcorn buckets. One I use for popcorn. The other 2 are from Christmas [2 different years]. I fill them with silk Christmas flowers and use them as decorations.
My mom had a WL Lodge mug whose handle broke. She turned it into a vase for dried flowers.
I collect room card keys too. Also all the welcome info that comes with resorts. Maps, time schedlues, phone lists and notepads.
Now the strangest thing I save is my receipts. When I get home I sort them and stack them by day and time.

Too funny... I think I have most every room key from stays at WDW someplace in my house...

Every time I go to DL or WDW, I look out for the new ones. I use my popcorn buckets at work, for pens, pencils, and scissors (I teach). I use them for the same at home. In WDW they have cute mugs, usually that are of the current Disney movie out in theaters. At DCA this year they had a Finding Nemo bucket that was too cute! And in WDW they had the mug to go with it. I don't even know how many I have of each, but it's a lot.
I love the room keys from WDW, because they have your name and the dates you were there, especially this years with Tink! I really miss the DL Hotel's old Tinkerbell room cards. They didn't have your name and the date, but I still carry one in my bag because it reminds me of where the magic began (for me). I can't wait to get to DL Paris, because they have really cute passports that have different characters too. I saw the Tink one and I was sold!:jester:

Well,
another POPCORN bucket collector here. I have 15 of them and have them hanging along the top edge of the wall where it meets the ceiling in my Disney room. That whole wall is pictures from trips and a cork board covered in black felt with Disney pins on it and two lanyards full of CM pins. I will be back in WDW in October and hoping for some new popcorn buckets to bring home with me.
Has anyone been to WDW lately and can remember what the buckets look like now?
Also have alot of the refillable mugs because they seem to change each trip and just gotta have the newest one too.
(Ok so I do bring back one old one with me but I do buy a new one too)(Just my daughter and myself)

I hope everryone has a great Labor day weekend.

We have a one foot high pile of room key cards going back to when they were just battleship gray and non- discript. With the exception of the gray ones, they made a lot of attractive colors. We also save the parking permit slips you get to put on your windshield when you stay at a WDW resort. And we also have, and my DW is NOT thrilled with this one, A park map from each park going back to 1988. And we have quite a few since we moved to Florida 7 years ago and only live an hour and a half away, and are DVC members, and we go every month except July. If I piled those up, they would make a pile about 4 feet high!

I am glad to hear I am not the only "obcessed" fan!! I too have popcorn buckets. My room keys are inserted into the frame around the mirror in my bedroom(so I can see them evry morning!} I keep all the brochures, even collect the different napkins. Also atleast 1 of all the different plastic bags. I have buttons and pins displayed. BAsically, something disney in every room and of course, the flag and statues, and doormat out side. oh yea...and the bumper stickers on the car!!

You have to lock the mirrors up in your bedroom? That's weird. Are they like magic mirrors or something? Have you thought about getting one of those Mirror Club devices where you hook it over the mirror and jamb the other end into the floor boards so someone can't steal your mirror. See it is times like this that I am grateful to live in Arizona where people respect other people's reflecting devices (magic or non-magic).

OK....... They are pushed into the space between the glass and the wood.

Sharp observation there AZ JazzyJ. Don't lose that keenness!

Ok guily as charged with the popcorn buckets!!! I use mine for our spare change to collect in for our next trip!!!

Room keys yes, popcorn boxes no. I do keep almost any paper item we get on a WDW trip.

Cute thread!

For me it's resort mugs, popcorn buckets, resort maps(all neatly placed in sheet protectors in a binder), room keys, and the cards they hand you from rides that take pictures (ie:splash mountain, tower of terror), and plastic shopping bags. I just can't part with any of that stuff. They are all momentos....

Popcorn buckets - no

Room Key Cards - yes (going back about 20 years or so)

My "fetish" is collecting "Do Not Disturb" signs & Room Service menus.

Oh, so your the reason that I can't find a do not disturb sign when I check in! :p

I too collect the popcorn buckets and reuse them for popcorn. Thanks for the heads up on the Christmas ones - will get one this year. I also collect beach towels. I buy one at every resort that we stay at, and at the theme parks. Can't seem to help myself...

This isn't for collecting, but I also save the shopping bags, room keys, used PHPs, every paper item given for my photo/scrapbook albums for each trip. I have parted with my receipts (don't want to be reminded - lol) If we take extra napkins at a restaurant, I save them and use them at home. I even have an old Grand Floridian paper towel that I wouldn't dream of using - really heavy weight. They didn't have them last time we were there.

I also save the Mickey/Minnie candy holders (the lunchbox style) Use one for DDs school snacks and the other is for crayons. The candy is brought back as DDs class treat after our trips.

I reinflate the Mickey balloons until we're tired of looking at them and then I save the balloon keepers. Got it real bad - glad I'm not alone though.
:)

I forgot about my bag collection. It goes back at least 11 years - 24 if my grandmother didn't touch the ones that were at her house. I gathered napkins for awhile and called them my "guest napkins" at home. Since I get few if any guests I have a lifetime supply and the move to the brown napkins didn't effect me.
My mom keeps the cups the swirls come in for jello. Then there are the plastic cups with the Mickey heads on them. I think now only icecream comes in them. We have some of those that go back to when Welch's had a stand by Peter Pan.

I have a room key from back when they were still keys. My honeymoon 1979.
