Do You Check Your Spouse's Pockets Before Doing Laundry?

My husband does his own laundry. I've offered to throw some of his things in with mine before but he has all these radical ideas about separating colors and using dryers sheets and stuff, so he's declined. :rotfl:

As far as checking the pockets on my own clothing, well, now I'm sitting here trying to figure out if any of my clothes even have pockets. :confused3

Several years ago, when my husband was a sheriff's officer (he's retired now), I found bullets in his pocket before I threw his uniform in the washer.

YES!! You only want one experience cleaning gum out of a dryer :scared:. Plus, sometimes I gain some spending cash by doing laundry!!!

Always. He literally just drops his jeans and leaves them (thats an entirely separate problem ugh). If I do his laundry, I make sure to shake his jeans upside down and usually find an interesting mix of coins, pocket knives, paper, and lots of other things!

Nope. I do not check any pockets. I do make a few bucks doing so. I’ve also ruined things people wanted.

Oh yea. I check every pocket. I was truly scarred by Dentyne!!! ugh We threw the clothes away.

It was all over the inside of the stainless steel drum of the dryer.

This is why I check every pocket of every article of clothing. Crayons in the dryer are not fun.

I just don’t see what the big deal is to take a few extra seconds to check pockets to avoid ruining clothing or the machines. To me, it seems like common sense and curtesy, not mothering/babying anyone.

He does his own laundry so it up to him to check his pockets; told him when we got together that I wasn't his momma, LOL.
I wash most of my clothing by hand. Very back in the day but my clothing last much longer than his;).

Agree!

I will double check pockets sometimes, lol. I also turn socks the right way and zip up pants and jackets.

DH also does laundry and checks pockets.

I make it a requirement of doing laundry on my machines that you check pockets. I DO NOT want to have to clean the drums of my washer or dryer for that ever again!

I don’t check but probably should, but then again, it’s really up to the person throwing their clothes in the hamper to check their own pockets. My son is the worst. Not once but twice, he left his Pokémon cards in his pockets and they got ruined in the machine. He lost access to the cards after that since he wasn’t careful. Those cards weren’t cheap either.
I’ve found rocks, candy, wrapped gum, tissues, money in the machine after the fact.

It depends. If I pick up clothes left on he side of the bed or bathroom floor I check. If it's in the hamper I don't check.

Everyone in our house now does our own laundry - even my husband. I started that when I had breast cancer 4 years ago and couldn't lift anything after surgery.
Prior to that I always had to check everyone's pockets because they often left stuff in them even though I told them to empty them every night. I would get so annoyed about it.

I know for a fact he often forgets to check his own pockets and has ruined some of his clothes because of it.

I have never understood why that is so difficult to remember to do because all of my life I've emptied my pockets before I take off my pants every night before bed. I guess it's just a habit for me.

I don't hand wash things (except for a handful of things) but I wash in the delicate cycle and using garment bags for my more sensitive stuff. But other than pjs and socks and underwear everything else gets hung up to dry or laid flat to dry.

My husband just throws it all in the washer and then throws it all into the dryer (with the exception of the couple of suits he has which gets dry cleaned every now and then). He does sort by color though it's mostly just the reds by themselves.

He also doesn't use softner and instead uses dryer sheets. I use softner and as mentioned above hang dry or lay flat majority of my clothes.

I don't check any pockets. They're lucky I manage to shove the clothes into the washer and sometimes move it to the dryer. I hang a lot of clothes to dry. But if money falls out it's mine. That's the rules.

No one in my house puts pens in their pockets. My kids have had chapsticks ruined. Lost money. Lost an important piece of paper. Oh well. Live and learn children. My SO hates things in his pockets so I don't have to worry about that. He hates carrying a wallet and keys so I know there's nothing extra in the pockets.

Today I found a capped marker in the dryer. Not sure how that ended up in there.

We each do our own too. Ever since the incident when we were newlyweds and I accidentally washed his wallet in a pair of jeans. He got uncharacteristically furious :furious: and growled at me "If you can't do it right don't do it at all". :rolleyes1 That sounded like a good deal to me!

Haha, does he have his own ironing room, too? ;)

My husband once tried telling me I was loading the dishwasher wrong. I was quick to respond with, "Oh, let me get out of your way so you can do it the way you like."
