Do You Check Your Spouse's Pockets Before Doing Laundry?

Yes I check....his as well as mine. He accidentally leaves pens and markers in his pockets all the time and I don’t know how many lipsticks/lipglosses I have washed. We are both horrible about leaving things in our pockets so now every piece gets checked before going in the wash.

I check everyone's pockets before doing laundry.
It took one pen without a lid to teach me that. Ink stains everywhere!

I've washed pens before too, so you'd think I'd learn. :(

Even with a cap/lid on the pen that doesn't always help. I've had them come totally apart in the washer.

No, and he doesn't check pockets when he does the laundry either--he does laundry more often than I do. We don't check the kids' pockets either, they have lost a few pairs of earbuds that way.

I check every pocket of mine when I put things into the dirty clothes. Everyone here does their own laundry so is responsible for checking their own pockets. If they leave something they shouldn't, then it's just their own clothing at risk at least.

Yes. Pens are evil. A pen once got wedged into the drum part of our washer and it threw our machine off kilter. We had to buy another washing machine shortly thereafter.

Nope, I barely have time to wash the clothes, much less check pockets. This is a well known fact in our house and I have little sympathy for non-washable items that get ruined. The kids usually don't have an issue with this, but my husband will leave a usb drive in his pocket about once a year.

No, I don't check the pockets of garments he puts in the hamper. If his things get ruined, it's on him. There was a short spree of him leaving tissues and/or papers in his pockets a couple of weeks in a row and I told if it happened again, he's doing his own laundry (ps...it hasn't happened since). He knows I'll keep any money less than $20.

We both do laundry, we both check every pocket every time. Paid the price a few times - once with a pack of gum.

I don't. My husband is the only one in the house who empties his pockets all the time. The kids are usually good about it with just the odd piece of paper here or there. I'm the trouble-maker. I check my pockets before doing laundry. :)

We all do our own laundry. If anyone needs to fill a load and asks others if they need something washed, they are responsible for checking their own pockets. We’re all adults here..

I don't go thru pockets but I sorta feel around as I put the clothes in the wash. My husband is the worst with leaving things in. Usually a key or his driver's license. He is a runner so he usually has that in his running shorts and he just is bad with emptying them out. Twice a chapstick went thru which was pretty bad in the dryer. My son left his phone in his pocket but putting it in rice really worked. I was amazed. Hate when tissues go thru.

Oh yea. I check every pocket. I was truly scarred by Dentyne!!! ugh We threw the clothes away.

It was all over the inside of the stainless steel drum of the dryer.

My husband does his own laundry, and I do mine, so no :-)

I honestly think this was one of the best things for our marriage. We each wash our own clothes- no complaining that someone washed something wrong, left something in a pocket, didn’t have something washed in time. If there’s something wrong with your clothes that’s on you in our house.

For some reason it's just always been this way for us. We never really chose to do it that way, he was just used to doing his own laundry (even though we were very young when we moved in together) so it stuck. When the kids were younger I did their laundry as well as mine, but they do their own now too.

Nope! And I couldn't tell you how many pairs of disposable ear plugs I've found in the washer and dryer! At least a pair a week. He puts them in that tiny little front pocket and forgets about them when he empties his pockets. He almost always does empty everything else, but I'll get a screw or nail here, a wad of paper there, and I've even washed a battery before. Thank goodness it fell out of the pocket in the washer! I did check all of the pockets before putting those clothes in the dryer, and called DH to make sure there was only one battery.

My husband and I remove things from our pockets before clothes go into the hamper. If we're running a load and pick up a stray piece of clothing that wasn't in the hamper, we'll check it first. He does more laundry than I do these days because he's already retired while I'm not. Now when DD comes by to do laundry (she doesn't have facilities where she and her husband live), she checks everything because they never clear pockets when they get undressed. To me, it's so a big waste of time. Then again, DH and I will turn our clothing right side out before it goes into the hamper since it makes folding afterwards so much easier.

I don't, if HE has thrown something into the laundry basket.

If he wears a shirt and then hangs it up on one of the hooks on the bedroom wall, thinking he might wear it again, and it's still there when I do a load of laundry and I want to wash it then I definitely do check the pocket, same with jeans/pants that are laying on the cedar chest. But if something is inside the basket then HE put it there himself, so I assume he has emptied the pockets. Maybe not... :(

Well, this morning I did a couple loads of laundry. One was a regular load, and the other was a load of his work/farm clothes (work pants, black socks, and work/flannel shirts). All of the clothes from that load were INSIDE the laundry basket so I just grabbed them and threw them in the washer.

As I'm taking that load OUT of the washer I'm noticing tiny little pieces of paper all over everything. I knew it wasn't a tissue as I have washed those before and they don't fall apart like that. I couldn't imagine what it was, until I got to the bottom of the washer. He had left his small tablet in a pocket.

Every year he writes things down in a little tablet, for spring planting and fall's harvest. He makes notes of everything in it, pertaining to the farm, planting and harvesting. He saves them each year and then can look back at last year, or two years, or whatever to see things pertaining to the farming season that year.

I feel terrible that it got washed, and is completely ruined. I guess I should have double checked the pockets of his shirts. :(

I think he keeps some notes in his phone too, so hopefully everything that's really important is also in the phone's notepad. :)

I do. I check everyone's pockets. Just to prevent things like food and pens going through.

However, the rule is, whatever I find, I keep. I've found everything from change to $100 bills in pockets. All mine.

The company DH works for hands out envelopes on occasion. Sometimes they are bonus checks, sometimes movie or sport tickets, or gift cards, and sometimes they are cash. $250 play money for me!* Mwahahaha

*I did use it to take all of us out to a nice dinner and a movie. And bought me a couple books for my Kindle. I'm not totally heartless. DH did not get the new sports gear he was wanting. He hasn't left money or envelopes in his pants pockets since.

I don't because I'm not his mother. He's left his car keys in his pockets a couple of times and after 2 trips through both the washer and the dryer, the lock button on that car key doesn't work anymore.
Exactly that. I've mothered enough kids. I don't need one more.
