Do you carry your self with CONFIDENCE?

We have a new person (Gerald) who started in the office who really stands out. He is just so confident in himself. His manner, bearing, posture, eye contact and speech is just so confident. When he walks into the room people notice him. He is also very handsome with a strong chin, large head and in perfect physical shape. People seem to hang on his every word and his "comand presence" shows authority.

Am I describing you? Do you carry your self with confidence? If not, is this something that can be taught? Do you know anyone like Gerald?

It appears that few people have the CONDIDENCE to open and respond to this interesting topic!

Sounds to me like you're describing "Gaston" !

And others have more "condidence" that their topics are always interesting. :)

Although I do not look like your office "Gaston," I have been told that I have great self confidence and can achieve most anything. Most of these comments were from current and previous bosses.

I think it has a lot to do with how people were raised. My mom praised me for everything I did, and eventually it kick in, that I am capable of anything.

I love the phrase from a movie that went like this:

Son: I would have made a great doctor.
Father: You would have made a great anything.

That sums it up.

Confidence is the cud cows chew on.

think I have a fair amount of confidence in most situaitons.

At work, I am confident because I have been at it a long time, know my stuff, have seen a lot and have a lot of experience.

Socially, I am fairly confident if I am in a group that I am comfortable with. If I am in a new situation, I may tend to be a bit reserved while I "size things up", but I try to be pleasant and social.

It's an interesting question. My honest answer is no. I was a terribly shy child. With age, I have overcome that, but that's what has kept me from ever being that kind of confident person. I hate talking in front of groups of people and I, admittedly, struggle with eye contact sometimes. I hate this about myself and am always trying to overcome it. But it's such a sub-conscious thing, it takes great effort and is very difficult.

I think so, at least most of the time.

As for it being something that can be taught -- absolutely, at least to a lot of people.

Some people have rather too much confidence. ;)
