Do you bring your own bedding?

I don't know if this is specific enough to post under 'resorts'. . . I'll understand if I get moved/deleted. . .

Just wondering. . .

Does anyone/has anyone brought their own bedding/sheets to the resort?

I've never really liked the whole idea of 'community bedding'----but hey, if you want to travel, you have to stay in a motel/hotel, right?

For 30+ years, I managed fine (not necessarily liking it).

I'm seriously considering bringing along my own set of sheets this upcoming trip. I never use the blanket and comforter, anyway (push it to the bottom of the bed or remove it entirely)---gross! I'm thinking I can just put the fitted sheet over the sheets they provide----pillowcases over theirs, etc.

Then, I wonder if I could leave a note for Mousekeeping to NOT make up the beds----so the nasty blanket and comforter don't make their way back to the bed atop of my sheets!?

Please don't think I'm a total germ-a-phobe or nut! (but I guess it is ok, if you do :upsidedow ) . . .I won't mention the clorox wipes I bring. . .ha!

Would like to hear from anyone else who brings or has brought bedding-----if they experienced any problems in doing so with house/mousekeeping. . .etc.

Thank you!!!!

You are not alone. As I posted in another post, I know that you can run into such things anywhere, and that's why I'm so reluctant to travel. The only way I can do it, is to bring Clorox and completely clean my room, toss the sheets and bedspread (I bring my own linens and towels), hang up a $1.00 shower curtain on the inside of the tub and let the original one hang on the outside of the tub at all times, put my own cheap mats on the bathroom floor, and after all that I have to refuse housekeeping during my entire stay because I don't want anyone coming along and contaminating(my clean space). I know, I know it's obsessive but I can't help it. People can really be nasty. Anywhere I go, I treat it the same as my house and some people aren't like that--heck, some are not even clean at home.

I bring my own sheets to all hotels that I stay at (not just Disney). Always have, always will. I can't sleep if I don't have my own sheets. :snooty:

It has never been a problem with housekeeping, and I have never had anyone put the "hotel" blanket and bedspread back over my sheets. I just take both off and fold them neatly and place them out of the way.

The only thing I suggest is to not bring white....housekeeping won't realize they are yours.

Whenever I go to a hotel/motel I always bring my own sheets and pillows (and if I have room a small blanket). Everyone usually thinks I'm nuts- so it's good to know that I'm not alone on this. I'm not a germ-a-phobe in the slightest, but the idea of sharing sheets with other people grosses me out. When I was younger, I refused to shower in the shower in hotels, even today it grosses me out but I've come to realize you just got to do what you got to do. At least I'm not alone in this. :goodvibes

Nope sorry I don't. I work with much worse thru the course of a 12 hr shift so it doesn;t bother me.Plus if I have to worry about bringing bedding as well as the rest of my luggage , it is no vacation and not worth the aggravation

Yes you are right. if you want feel home every where then there is no meaning to go out side.

there should be some thing panic and thrilling which put us out of our daily life.

No.

First, I have more important items to pack - items that the/any hotel doesn't provide.

Second, the linens ARE changed between Guests. Removing the spread (and blanket, if desired) and perhaps notifying housekeeping to keep them off is sufficient - so is requesting a freshly-washed blanket.

I'd be more concerned about the actual bedding, i.e. the mattress. And there's no WAY I can bring my own, so...

To deal with germs, we..............

don't lay on the comforter
don't walk barefooted in the room

For a good nights sleep, we...........
bring our own pillows

No, I don't bring my own bedding--we walk on the wild side, I guess. ;)

I'm curious--do you folks who do bring your own fly or drive? With the luggage restrictions and added costs, there's no way I'm packing sheets and pillows when I'm flying. I have to have something to wear each day.

I would never consider bringing my own sheets. I agree with the PP about the comforter - never use it, but have never had an issue with sheets/pillows.

I also agree with the comment about flying (suitcases). I have no extra room for pillows and sheets!!!

We don't because of the hassle and because we fly. I believe there is just as much ickiness in restaurants, playgrounds, Wal-Mart, etc., etc. I just TRY not think about it/visualize it so I don't gross myself out. Just imagining the dead skin cells floating all around me and the microorganisms I can't see in my daily life...ugh. Denial and ignoring is my solution.

heck no. I put on my blinders and assume the entire room is cleaned properly. ;)

I have never given a thought to bringing my own sheets or pillowcases or towels. We don't ever use the blankets or comforters in the rooms, but other than that, the only thing I do is bring the clorox wipes to "reclean" the bathroom and all the hard surfaces. I can't imagine having to pack sheets and towels and blankets, I already have too much luggage as it is! I always assume, and hope and pray, that the sheets and towels are clean, I mean they do wash them in between guests, don't they??!!!

Nope, and probably never will. I can understand the reasoning behind those that do, but honestly, the rooms are cleaned, and the linens washed between guests.

Besides, you can't build up a healthy immune system if you don't allow yourself to be subjected to some germs. :confused3

I could easily give into this since I have control issues, but where do you stop? Like others have posted you sleep on the mattress. If there are germs on the hotel bedding they surely exist in the mattress, so no matter what thread count sheet you use(unless they are rubber)those germs, dust mites, etc. are still there. Also, do you ever eat out? You wipe down door knobs and remotes, but then go to the parks and have to touch the finger scan! I could go on, but I have to stop thinking about it or I might ruin my trip. Let go, enjoy your trip, and wash your hands, esp.before eating!!!!

Well, after my DH (who travels a lot for work-) witnessed the maid scrub the inside of the toilet with a scrub brush- then reach over and scrub out the tub with the same brush-- then wipe the toilet rim with a cloth- and then proceed to take the same cloth to his countertop and glass cup sitting on said counter...

yep. we bring all that.

And more.;)

Who is a Proud germaphobe:goodvibes

(Just wanted to add- this wasn't at a WDW property that this happened... it was a VERY expensive hotel-)

I bring my big LLBean sleeping bag. Unzip it so it lays flat like a comforter. I take off the bedspread and top sheet and just lay the sleeping bag on top of it. I also bring my own pillows and blanket. I couldn't imagine bringing my own sheets and putting them on the bed because I think it would be too much work, but I do bring the sleeping bag and sleep on that.

First chance I'm having to see if anyone replied to my post last night. Great skimming through everyone's comments!

I figured I wasn't ALONE----just good knowing that there are other people out there that feel the same. I know it is unrealistic to have the room be perfectly clean---but I do like to feel comfortable and able to relax. . .

Glad to hear that those who have done this haven't had problems with housekeeping remaking the beds, etc!

Gosh, I remember from being very young my parents saying, "don't walk on the carpet"----so I grew up knowing (even back in the 70s) about shared living spaces! To date, waking up in the night to go to the bathroom and having my foot wear at the ready by the bed!

(Aqua socks in the shower, anyone?)

I noticed one person asked if if people bringing their bedding flew or drove. . . We are flying. USAIR. And yes, now all checked bags come with an additional charge. I think I can still manage a set of sheets, though----I'll die trying ;)

Yeah, I know I can't live in a sanitized bubble----but I like to take some actions to at least make me feel better. . .so wiping down faucets and countertops (the dreaded remote control :scared: ) and making my own bed is little trouble. . .

Anyhow. . .thank you for all the replies and comments!!! :thumbsup2

Leaving in about three weeks. . .Purell in pocket!!! :woohoo:

So where do you people eat and toilet when you are in the parks?

We put the remote control immediately into a ziplock bag-- it works thru it...;)
and then wash our hands.
