We are off to the world in a couple of weeks. Since we won't have a rental car and are using magic express out of buffalo we will not be able to go to a grocery store. We have dinning plan but are hoping to bring some snacks and cereal with us. Has anyone ever done this. Is food ok in checked luggage?? Sorry if a silly question.

You would be surprised at what you can pack in checked bags. Just be sure to pack them so they don't break. Enjoy the trip

We always bring breakfast food with us. You can get 2 L jugs of milk in the store at the resort to go in the fridge in the room. We often take bagels, smalls boxes of cereal, granola bars. Then we stock up on cutlery, cream cheese, milk and fruit from the store/counter service so we can eat breakfast in the room. Find it much quicker as we can take turns eating/showering.

Thanks. This will work out great. Wasn't sure if they sold milk in the store. I thought we would have to buy them at the food court. We are staying at port Orleans . Thanks

If the food court doesn't have jugs of milk look in the gift shop. They have a little grocery section. Not sure if this still applies but the prices used to be a little better than the food court on these items.

haha - not only do I pack snacks but I have been known to bubble wrap bottles of liquor. Never had a problem. On SWA where there is no charge for luggage I have packed a collapsable color with water, gatorade, alcohol, and snacks!

If you don't want to pack snacks and need more of a selection than the shop sells you could walk to the Goodings ,up at the Crossroads, from DTD. We do this every time we are there, it is about a 10-15 minute walk and I actually really enjoy walking up past the hotels and just getting an hour or 2 away from the busyness of Disney. To get there you go out the exit across from Pin Traders at DTD, cross the road and then its pretty much a straight path up to the crossing over to the Crossroads. We usually buy a crate of bottled water, a box of cereal, milk, bread, butter, coffee (we bring tea bags from home, nothing beats a good Scottish Blend, lol) and some snacking things. We also usually go to the Red Lobster across the road for dinner/lunch before we walk back, yummy!! :)

We flew out of the US and I loaded a small suitcase with cereal, home made banana bread, nutella, paper bowls/cutlery, other snacks, etc. Like another poster, I also packed some alcohol (Plastic bottles) and beer bottles. I double wrapped them individually in ziploc bags and wrapped in some sweaters.

I also packed (ok, and everyone will go ewwww ....) boiled eggs! LOL. Dh and I loved boiled eggs some mornings and I needed them! I put each in a ziploc, then together in a bigger ziploc, then in a tupperware container so they wouldn't smell!

Thank you everyone for the replys. This is great. We are getting so close. Can't wait!! We are flying SWA. Also. And there are four of us. So a suitcase full of food. Won't cost us any extra. Thank you so much for the tips

wow good to know there is alot you can pack to take. will be packing cereal and some other things for the crew members onboard the fantasy, we are staying at okw for 2 nights pre cruise so dont have to pack much but it can save us a little time and money.2 Teen grandkids are coming with us so you can image that snacks are a big item to them!:cool1:

And the nice thing is when you come home you have all the empty space from the breaktfast/snacks for souvenirs!

LOL, or all that space for dirty laundry! Dirty clothes seem to take up more space than clean ones, I guess because we don't bother folding.

Taking most snack foods into the US by plane is acceptable.
There is a long list of everything that you can take on the US customs website. Last time we went I had a checked bag full of granola bars, protein bars, nuts, powdered drink mix for our water bottles. It was great to have that along with us and have the brands/items we really like.

We do this as well. We usually bring granola bars, cereals and oatmeal and then get fruit and milk from the food court or with snack credits. Then breakfast is easy and we can eat while we get ready in the morning.

We like to eat breakfast on the balcony, so I always pack cereal, almonds, trail mix and granola bars. It's never been an issue and it does save a bit of money!

I guess you have you answer by now but we pack and entire suitcase of food and sundries. We stay offsite at a condo and I find I can buy much of these smaller size items in Canada much cheaper than the local Publix in Orlando. I pack a small peanut butter, dish and laundry detergent, coffee and tea, cereal, crackers, basically anything that won't go bad. And I too pack liquids in a freezer bag so as not to ruin the luggage if they break.

We just take a cab to Super Target and get what we want even souvenirs. Way cheaper there. We have also shopped at Buffalo for stuff if we have no plans to shop at Orlando.

I agree, if you plan ahead you can stock pile small size items that you find at home either on sale or in a good dollar store. When the cost is only a dollar or so you don't feel so bad throwing out the left overs before coming home.
