I spoke w/a friend who did a 7-day DCL in August. She said she didn't and wouldn't bring good jewelry. She didn't even wear her wedding ring, but wore a cheap imitation for fear of losing it swimming or having it stolen.

I don't have a lot of good jewelry, but I have a few pieces. It seems like a shame NOT to wear them when dressed up for dinner, but I'm not sure I want to mess with putting them in a master safe etc.

What's your opinion?

There are little safes in your stateroom, I kept over $1,000 dollars in there with no trouble...though I didn't bring any jewerly with me, I can't stand wearing rings and I just didn't want to bother with anything else.

The safe in the cabin is quite secure. I would not wear my good stuff out snorkling (bad idea even with fake stuff as glittery things attract baracuda and sharks) but I always bring my jewels... (the few I have) As a preschool teacher I don't get a whole lot of time to show off my things Jay has bought me and I love dressing up so I always bring the good jewelry..

I always bring my good jewelry with me. I have never had any trouble with people stealing my cubic zirconia and gold plated necklaces. ;)

I brought my good jewelry to wear on formal and semi-formal nights. Like the other poster, I don't get to wear it often, so I enjoyed having the opportunity. I left it in the room safe otherwise. I wore my favorite $8 cheapie ring when we took shore excursions and went swimming, but changed back to my nice one back on board.

On our RCI cruise this past summer I brought my good jewelry to wear for formal and semi-formal nights. I always wear my diamond engagement and wedding rings, but if I feel I'm in a questionable area, I turn the rings with the diamonds facing in towards my palm.

Sadly, my mother recently passed away and I know that her will specified for my sister and I to get her jewelry. Among other things, my sister will be getting her diamond engagement and wedding ring set, but I'll be getting a ring that is made up of a HUGE amethyst surrounded by large round diamonds. In all honesty, if someone saw this ring, they'd probably think it was a fake. LOL It's HUGE!! My dad bought this ring for my mom many years ago when he was a theatrical teamster in NYC. She always thought it was way too "showy" to wear and she didn't wear it very often. I do plan on bringing and wearing this ring with me next summer on our Disney cruise. (Where else would I wear a ring like this?? LOL) But because of the sentimental value of it, I may have it locked up at the purser's desk when I'm not wearing it. I would be heart broken to lose this ring and it could never be replaced for all the money in the world.

This leads me to a question: Have any of you ever had the purser's deck lock up your good jewelry for you?? On our RCI cruise this summer my SIL had them lock up the rings she inherited from her grandmother, for the same reasons I mentioned above.

I do wear a good piece or 2 and then buy the rest on the ship and the islands :teeth: I just lock up what I'm not wearing in the safe, along with the purse and DH'S wallet - never had a problem.

the reason being it is a computer controlled card release so if someone opened the safe other than the card you authoized it would be recorded. the pursers safe is able to be opened by several people. My jewelry is insured anyhow, and I have not heard of any jewel thieves on the DCL ships..:)

Yes I bring it and I do use the inroom safe. Never had a problem in 5 DCL cruises and in all a total of 12 cruises never had a problem. Do remember this, do not wear your jewelry in the ocean, I read this last year that bright jewelry can attrack fish ie sharks! Hm, better safe than sorry. People from the coast, is this true or fiction? Kathy

my jewlery with me, I don't wear it off the ship, so I leave it in the safe when I am gone, no problems yet.

Yes it is true, never wear anything sparkly when snorkling, baracudas are drawn to it!

Thanks.

I'm getting so close to the trip I can't stand it!

I've planned for over a year, but I still don't feel ready! I'm also dreading the day we get back. I'll need anti-depressants ;) or at least begin scrapbooking so I have SOMETHING Disney to hang onto!

This thread reminds me of my kooky mother. She had fakes made up of all her jewelry to wear out in public incase she was robbed. I thought this was the silliest thing I had ever heard of. My DH and I still laugh hoping she doesn't mix them up. Each piece of good jewelry I own is a wonderful memory, I think it would be sad to keep them locked away all the time.

On one of our RCCL cruises my mother jammed her digital safe and ended up having to call for help to open it.They sent a maintenance worker and if you would've seen how fast he got in that safe you would never use one again.Having said that let me also say that I understand how unlikely it is that you would be robbed by an employee, i.e. how would someone get in your room? etc.. but it really made me think. By the way my husband is a jeweler and I always bring my good stuff!

My BF has gotten me some beautiful jewlery-its stuff I wear everyday and love it...however, I will be taking it off for the cruise...even the necklace that I havent taken off since he put it on my neck...My reason for this...is b/c I have jewerly that will look great with my outfits and most importantly...I dont want to get eaten by baracuda!!!!
So, I'll feel naked for a week...but the things I hold close to my heart will be safe...

just don't wear it when you are snorkling.. cripes, if you wear it all the time why in the world would you leave it home? In all of our cruises I have never heard of a jewel thief, you do have a safe in your cabin!

I feel like a little kid when I say this...but I have all matching jewerly that goes with the outfits I have for dinner and I wanna dress up-...the necklace I wear everyday isnt small by any means...and matches- well not much...The heart that is on it is about ...a little smaller than a quarter and jumps out at you when you look at it...
I'm sure there arent any jewelery thiefs on DCL but I would feel safer if its home thats all...plus it gives me a good reason to play with the jewlery I dont wear much anymore...
Just my opinion...thats all...Sorry.

I was just saying that your jewelry is safe in your cabin's safe... everyone should do what they feel comfortable with!

I bring my good jewelry and put them in the room safe - along with my wallet, camera and other small valuables not being used. After two cruises, there have never been any problems with this.
