Do you believe in ghosts/haunted places?

With the experiences of my friends and family, yes I do believe.

I have never seen a ghost, but I have "sensed" things I have not been able to explain. When I say sense, I mean hear, smell, and feel. And trust me, I would rather have a sensible explanation than believe there's a ghost haunting my apartment! :rotfl:

My DH has seen *many* things he can't explain.

Yep, I do believe..for sure!

Ive seen one.

My sisters country house had one and they had to disclose it when they sold it. You felt a presence and would hear someone humming.
It was a friendly ghost.
I slept with a light on anyway. :earseek:

Definitely. In our last house, we had a "health conscious" visitor that played with or used our weight set in the basement...usually around 2 or 3 am!!

When we went to Williamsburg we experienced a lot of ghostly history. We bought a book about it, but when I came home I couldn't bring myself to read it.

Not convinced - but kinda hoping they exist..

I definitely believe in Spirits. And ghosts. A ghost is really more of an energetic imprint left in a particular spot / home. An energy that repeats itself over and over, not interacting or responding to us here in the physical realms. A Spirit is a being that knows what's going on and can interact with you, if they care to lower their vibration enough to manifest physically, whether visually or audibly, or whatever.

That being said, I guess we have what most would call a "haunted house". Our home used to be a private hospital. The doctors here in Acadiana in the early 1900's, used to have their own hospitals, usually on the upper floors of their private homes. We bought the house 2 1/2 years ago, and the spirit activity was pretty rampant from the get-go. Our first night here, I felt someone "tucking me in" bed, as my husband was still in the bathroom. I was startled but not scared, as it felt like a loving energy.

We have had lots of other voices, doors slamming, etc., too many to bore you all with. But I will write about two of the most prominent happenings.

First, we have a regular visitor who we have named "the priest". I began seeing a tall man, dressed in a long, dark, priestly looking day jacket thing (I'm not Catholic...what are those things called?), walking past the outside of our dining room window, then turning the corner and walking past the other window, toward our back door. The first couple of times I saw him, I thought he was a real man, and I would stand in the kitchen, waiting for him to knock, so I could answer the door. No knock ever came, and I would open the door, and walk outside, looking around for him. About the third time it happened, I realized this must be a spirit. I didn't mention it to my husband, because he's a little more hysterical about things like this. Well, one day, he came to me, and said, "Have you seen that man walking past our window?" :bitelip: We then compared notes, and figured out we were seeing the same being. I was telling a friend about the "priest" and expressed confusion as to why he was coming to see us non-Catholics, and my friend said, "Duh! He's coming to visit the patients, like a good priest should!" And, she's right, I believe. We love him and welcome him here, now.

The other main Spirit we have here is of a little girl, 10-ish or so. I don't want to get too long-winded, so I'll just describe one of her incidents. I was lying in bed one morning, with my eyes closed, but very much awake, just lying there, listening to the birds singing, and feeling the sun warming my face. I was lying on my side, facing the edge of the bed. I felt a presence directly in front of my face, and simultaneously heard a little girl's voice say, "Miss Charlene, will you brush my hair?" I of course was shocked and opened my eyes and sat up, looking all around. I don't want her to think I'm scared of her, as I do feel very motherly towards her. I just said, "My darling, I wish I could brush your hair." I then felt a big wave of deep sadness.

Well, I guess you all think I'm a kook by now! :earseek:

I'd like to...

I wish my grandma and dad would come back...there's a lot of things I'd like to say to each of them.

I like to do ghost tours in historic towns. Can anyone recommend some cool ones?

I don't think ghosts are just in the mind and I am pretty sure Remy has seen a ghost or something. She was two when she started talking to ***. I refuse to say it's name because it gives me nightmares. At first I blew it off and figured it was a normal imaginary thing, I hesitate to call it a "friend", but as time passed I decided to talk to her doctor about it. She would hit herself and have scratches on her and blame ***. I was scared to death one day because we were in the car when she started screaming and hitting herself in the face saying it was ***! I admit I started sobbing and started yelling at Remy to stop it. She also started having night terrors. The doctor said it was normal, but I couldn't deal with it and told Remy that *** was not welcome in our house and couldn't come "play" anymore. That is when she started sitting at the window and whispering. When I asked what she was doing she said she was talking to ***. She also said *** was very angry with me and wanted to hurt me. Remember she was two at this time so I got sucked in and found myself totally paranoid thinking that maybe *** was real. My family thought I was making too much out of it until Remy stayed the night at my mom's and *** came over (or so Remy told us). It scared my mom so bad she refused to let Remy stay the night anymore. *** was apart of our lives until right before Remy turned three and my aunt died of cancer. Then *** vanished and Remy stopped talking to it. She said Aunt Faye made *** go home. So far we have not heard from *** again but I still freak out when anyone mentions it's name.

boy and I ticked off. I just got kicked off my computer after I wrote an answer to this thread.

Peter Panette, please tell us more

KimWim8, what is the title of the book you got and what tours did you take in Williamsburg

There is a tour in the Orlando area (closer to St. Augustine) that takes you on a tour and actually takes you in haunted places. I have been pretty scared to take it. I think I will next summer. They give you a camera and let you try and capture "activity" on film.

I took a tour in Newport RI last fall and it was pretty good. I have also taken them in Salem but they were during October and that is NOT the time to take any type of unearthly tour in that city. It is so crowded. If you are in Salem,Ma eat at the Lyceum Restaurant. It has a well known ghost. I have never seen it though.

I will say that when I was in Salem I hunted down Gallows Hill where those convicted of witchcraft were hung. It was difficult to find since people who knew the area were fairly closed mouthed about where it is. Someone I knew who was conducting a tour told me that it was a bad area and I did not want to go there. Finally, I asked a policeman and he told us. It is now called " Gallows Hill Playground" At the foot of the hill is a kid's playground and when you climb the hill it is just kind of eerie. AS we were climbing a little bunny appeared in the middle of our path, it stopped very unconcerned and stared at us for about a minute and then went on its way. After I found that the rabbit or hare was a favorite animal associated with witchcraft. I just found it kind of ironic especially in light of the fact that at the top of the hill are houses and a basketball court. Not exactly the place to find bunnys living.

Remyandhollands......,

You should check out this website childpastlives.org. It is a site that talks about reincarnation and how little kids are better able to remember past lives. I know it sounds strange but my son was exactly like your daughter. He used to talk to his "friend" but the difference was he told me he knew this person before he came down to me. He told me of a whole other life and how he was in the army during the war. His friend "Rick" had saved his life once when he got drunk. He said he was throwing up and choking on it and Rick saved him by turning him on his stomach. Rick was a sargent and my son was a general( I did not even know which ranks of matched which branch of the service and had to ask my dad) Now that does not sound all that startling but when you consider I was a stay home mom. We had NO mention of any type of anything military. WE watched only Sesame St. Mr. R. and things like that. There was nothing in his frame of reference that would relate to drinking much less getting drunk both my husband and I do not drink. Everything that my son told me were things totally not known to his life and since I stayed at home I monitored everything he did. He would relate stories of the army to me and different things that went on. He too was only two and had night terrors just as your daughter. For this reason I went and got all the books I could not past lives. Everything my 2 yr old had told me was typical of kids remembering a past life. Maybe that is what happend partially to your child. I do not think you are crazy and I think anyone who has experienced this with a child HAS to think twice before they dismiss other worldly happenings.

Angela, I'm wondering if Remy is the type of child upon whom everyone keeps remarking how loving she is? Is she known as a "peacekeeper", often intervening on behalf of an underdog? I feel that Remy is extra special. Sometimes needy, so called "dark" energies like to latch on to bright, shining lights like Remy. Not to scare you! All you ever have to do is tell them to leave...just as Aunt Faye did. Bella had a great point, it probably does result from a past life connection that Remy had. I know that most people in the Western world do not believe in past lives, and I understand and respect that. But, I do believe in them.

Bella, since you asked...

Just a couple more stories.

The first couple of days after we moved into this home, I would be in the kitchen, unpacking, washing, and putting away stuff. I heard a man sigh a deep, exasperated sigh, a couple of feet behind me. I had my hands in dishwater, and, thinking it was my husband sighing, I said, "What're you sighing about, sad sack?" Silence. I turned around and no one was there. I grabbed a towel and walked through the house, looking for my husband. I found him out in the front yard. The kitchen, where I heard the sigh, is in the very rear of the house.

The next day, I was again, at the sink, and heard a man clear his throat, as if trying to get my attention. Very distinct and clear. My husband was gone to the store, and I was the only one in the house. (Only he and I live here, alone)

Several months after moving in, I was in a spiritual chatroom, and this man from Wales started saying, "Who here found a dead bird outside their door this morning." Well, I had indeed found one that very morning! :scared1: He was a very accurate (scarily accurate) psychic, and said he had some information for me. He said that we had a girl spirit residing with us, and he described some things going on around us that I hadn't given too much thought to, like feeling someone tickling or poking my legs whenever I was busy cooking or cleaning, or walking into my closet and thinking that things looked out of place. He said that she is playful and is always snatching at our clothes because she thinks it's funny to see us look around like "huh?". He claimed that she was going in my closet and trying on my clothes because they seemed strange and funny to her. :scared1: I'm very open minded, but I still wonder about that one, and would completely laugh it off, if it weren't for the fact that I had indeed been looking around in my closet and thinking, "hmmm..I don't remember leaving that there!". He claims that she died in a horrible fire around 1875. There have been several occasions when I asked my husband, "Do you smell smoke?" And I would walk all through the house, making sure nothing was burning. I finally *got it* that she was probably just around me during those times. It would really overwhelm me, to the point of me coughing and going outside to try and get fresh air. By the way, our house has never burned down. The psychic claimed that it was a large house that was on the same parcel of land where ours now stands. I haven't been able to figure out a way to verify this, historically. I've asked a few people, but none have heard of a fire around 1875, here.

Our insurance agent was here, finalizing some life insurance papers for us, and he began, out of the blue talking about a campground being haunted. He became embarrassed and I told him not to worry, that I believed him, because I thought we had "activity", here at home. When he asked me to detail it to him, as I was telling him about some of the stuff I've mentioned here, the door to our sunroom slammed closed, on its own. He jumped up, grabbed his folders and said, "Well! That means it's time for me to go!"

As it is for me, as well.

I tend to have wierd "feelings". Normally I just say something has happened here when I "feel" them. My neighbor or a previous house had told me last year that indeed the house we were in was haunted. She said that there was a person that went there like once a summer and once a month in the winter or so and she would see lights on in the house and shut off while she looked at it or was outside. But said she was SCARED of the house!!!! OH MY GOSH!!! I think I have told this before but the first time I went to clean the house I worked hard and it got dark out. I was in the dining room and I stood up and looked into the kitchen's window and the light slowy turned out at that very minute that I looked. There is no dimmer and it never happened again. I screamed and left all the lights on and ran out. While living in the house lots and I mean lots happened. And I am only thinking of this last part now as I type. My inlaws really don't like me and tried to break us up in a horrible way. It got very tense and I took the kids and left for moms for a while. Durring that time hubby had guard duty. He came home to find the whole living room ceiling fell in, it froze in there, and it was all just a huge mess. I came back up and we left the house. My neighbor had said a wonderfull couple moved in and fixed it up and it was beautiful!!! She also said it was peaceful now. I tend to think the previous owners knew we couldn't fix it up like it needed to be. It was a gorgious house that needed loving. Anyway we weren't supposed to be there I think lol. I also thought it was a very angry place. We were always angry and fighting and it seemed that when we left things were more peacefull. We had gone to his moms church and explained all the things that were happening and our behaviors.

My daughter had also talked I think about a girl that was in a castle that she talked too and explained how she was hurting. She showed me out the window sometimes. I am a little foggy on the details with her cause I wanted to believe it was only kids stuff. I dunno she hasn't had any imaginary friends before or after. One time in the house I was scared to go upstairs where my kids were sleeping.... was like I couldn't go up there, physically I couldn't... then a few hours later it was fine, and kids were fine.... my hubby has been dead bolted out only when he smoked out in the porch. my sink in the bathroom turned on while I was "occupied". My puter clicked on. tv turned off. basement wasn't too bad but I was scared as heck going down there. it was just an angry atmosphere. And then after moving out is when the neighbors told me of all the stuff. There is more stuff but can't remember lol.

And then there was that wierd ( I think) dream of that little girl that seemed so real. I want to believe it was a terror thing but a few days after hubby had his first real incounter when the doorknob almost opened when he was "occupied" lol. He yelled for me and I was on the puter..... after that nothing too wierd has happened to me.

Yes.

But I am incredibly skeptical. Incredibly. I can't stress how incredibly skeptical I am. :smooth:

Reading remyandhollandsmommy post reminded me of a incident that happened with DS {who was 3 at the time} after my mom passed away, but nothing as scary.

It was about 2 weeks after she passed away when I went back to get stuff that was her's and bring it to my house. She was a big collector of ducks and I brought everything she had of them back home with me. When I returned home I started to unpack them and sitting them around the house. She had this really special one that she really liked that sat in a basket. The duck is a good size, about the size of a small house cat. Anyways, that night I was in the bathroom getting my PJ's on and DS comes running though the door, "The duck moved, the duck moved!" Him being 3 I was ok that's nice and sent him back out. About 3 minutes later he comes running back in "The duck moved, the duck moved!" Now I had to find out what he was talking about cause we had two cats and I figured they probably were around it and made it move. I told him to show me which duck moved, he took me into the living room and sure enough it was the one my mom loved.

Later that night I had a dream of my mom and me in the bathroom at the house I grew up in. She was putting on her makeup and I asked her if she moved the duck. She looked at me and said "Yes!" when I asked her why, she told me "To let him know that I was there." And that was it, no more to the dream.

Then there was a time I had an incident of my own. I was trying to hang something on the wall that was attached to a ribbon. The nail was really to high for me to be trying to hang it up without climbing on a stool, but I didn't feel like getting it. So I kept trying and trying to catch the ribbon on the nail, but of course the ribbon would keep flopping down. I was about to give up when I asked my mom for some help, right then the ribbon caught on the nail. Some might say it was a coincendence {?} but to me, it was my mom. She didn't get to spend much time with her grandkids, especially DD. DD was only 3 months old when my mom passed. So she is spending time with her in a different way now.
