Do you believe in Astrology?

No, but I find it mostly harmless, so I let my friends who do believe have their fun.

I saw a thing on medical astrology a few weeks ago (and people were legit blaming injuries and illnesses on their star sign). That’s a whole other kettle of fish that I think can be harmful. But I imagine it’s only a teeny tiny subset of people who believe in astrology.

A big nope for me. Now the glowy star stickers in my bedroom? Those do at least help effect my mood.

No, not for a second. But I was curious about someone (elsewhere) posting about being Mercury-in-retrograde. What the heck does that imply?

This means Mercury appears to be moving backwards (but really isn't). To Astrologists, this means some kind of reversal. I think like the protonic reversal you get when you cross the streams when firing proton packs. It's dangerous, but effective towards defeating an interdimensional demi-god such as Gozer. Now Gozer is a traveler but can also take the form of a destroyer, and as you know, Gozer once took the form of a giant sloar! Many shubs and zuuls knew what it was like to be roasted in the depths of the sloar that day I can tell you.

Short answer: I don't know.

I don't, but if you do, do you believe the old calculated astrological signs or the newly calculated astrological signs?

The stars have changed position and as a result the star signs have changed meaning you might not be the sign you think you are.

I was Cancer but am now Gemini.

Ophiuchus is not new it was just ignored in the old calculations and the numbers fudged so there were 12 signs to make other math easier.

Here are the current correct dates for the star signs:
  • Capricorn: Jan 20 - Feb 16
  • Aquarius: Feb 16 – March 11
  • Pisces: March 11 – April 18
  • Aries: April 18 – May 13
  • Taurus: May 13 – June 21
  • Gemini: June 21 – July 20
  • Cancer: July 20 – Aug 10
  • Leo: Aug 10 – Sept 16
  • Virgo: Sept 16 – Oct 30
  • Libra: Oct 30 – Nov 23
  • Scorpio: Nov 23 – Nov 29
  • Ophiuchus: Nov 29 – Dec 17
  • Sagittarius: Dec 17 – Jan 20

Are you the same sign you thought you were? Scorpio is rare as there are only 7 days.

Yep, that was the 13th sign I was talking about. Keep in mind Astrology deals with 12 constellations but there are many more out there. I first read about this via a Wired article, which gets into other reason why Astrology star signs are highly unreliable when applied to Astronomy. Which shouldn't surprise anyone!

Okay, but isn't your sign based on the positions of the stars at the time you were born? So, maybe going forward, for new babies, these are the new signs. Or are they saying that the stars shifted like 50 years ago and the charts were never updated?

Ophiuchus was identified by the Greeks thousands of years ago. It's been ignored by Astrologers.

The stars appear in the sky at different periods than they did thousands of years ago when the astrological charts were created. It is not a sudden change but slowly over thousands of years.

The BBC previously speculated that ancient astrologers perhaps ignored Ophiuchus because they wanted to chart the 360 degree path of the Sun in a mathematically pleasing way of 12 equal parts, each one of 30 degrees. Whatever the reason, the unfamiliar constellation represents a man wrestling a serpent, dividing the snake’s body in two parts.

Spin off from the UFO thread, with a nod to Valentine's.
I myself am not a believer, but hey, maybe you've had the type of story that challenges the skeptics.

Do you believe that celestial bodies govern your decisions and behaviors?
Do you coordinate your schedule according to the constellations?
If you had to choose between horoscopes or tacos, would you choose beef or chicken tacos?
No
No
