Do you associate certain songs with things, not necessarily a soundtrack?

Let me clarify.

I absolutely cannot hear "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole (sp?) without thinking of Mark Green dying on ER. Now it's on a Rice Krispie commercial. ACK!!

Anywone else do this??

Differnt songs always make me think of a time, place and a mood

Any song that plays on KISS108 FM here in Boston, all 8 of them, remind me of work. Me and a couple of kids I work with a Dominos was at a family fun day handing out pizza, when the DJ played any song that happens to be on KISS108's "loop." We would look at each other and cringe, because it reminded of of being at work. (where most of the kids put it on KISS108)

Definitely. Especially "summer" songs, which sometimes feel like the soundtrack to my life. "That's from the summer I turned 12." "That's from the summer I worked at the beach." "That's from the summer I started to drive." "That's from the summer DD was born." And so on. And I feel as if I'm back in time, at least for 3 minutes or so. :rotfl:

::yes::
I have to say pretty much every eventful moment of my life up until I was in my 20's has a song associated with it.

I hear that song and I think of my wedding, it's the song I walked down to. God I hope no one was thinking about Dr Green dying when it was playing at the wedding! :rotfl:

Yep, there was a country song out in I think 98 about "sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug." It always makes me think of Duluth because we heard it a lot on the roadtrip there. Lots of songs remind me of driving to WDW and a Colin Raye song always reminds me of the summer my dad died.

The song Angels Among Us was played last summer on the anniversary of a really tragic shooting spree in northern NH. My grandfather truly had had an angel looking out for him that day. He changed his plans last minute. If he hadn't he would have been in that lawyer's office almost 9 years ago when the gunman walked in. I'd never associated that song with it before, probably because I'd never really thought about what happened that day. But ever since I heard it played on the anniversary that's what I associate it with

Yes. I associate "Volcano" by Jimmy Buffett with my friends and I walking into a bar in New Orleans, where the band who was covering the song abruptly changed the lyrics mid-verse to a lurid version wherein they offered to perform body-cavity searches on us for free. It still makes me laugh almost 10 years later

This is going to be a lesser known song to most people unless they are in the UK, but when I hear the song "Free Me" by Emma, I can only think of driving with my best friend in his car. It was the first time I ever heard it, and I guess that memory sticks out as it was one of the first times we hung out.

LOL LOL They have added an 8th song? :lmao:

everytime I hear Enya's Only Time, I think of 9/11. Shortly after 9/11, somone sent me a photo montage set to that song it ha horrible images of people jumping off buildings etc....so, so sad :sad1:

BTW ~ I always think of Mark Greene when I hear Somewhere Over The Rainbow too...I love that song!

Yes, very strongly. Especially related to old boyfriends. Everytime I hear the Ramones I'm cruisin with the love of my life at the time in a noisey VW bug. If I close my eyes, I can hear, see, smell everything. How strange.

Well, Iz's song was popular in the islands while he was alive and way, way prior to the commercials that feature it. It makes me think of home and the fact his daughter and wife are getting royalties. :thumbsup2

I think it's normal to make a different association when a song gets too commercialized, though.

With 80s songs I remember my awkward, but fun teen years. Oh to be young again! :teeth:

Mine are time periods too. If I ever make a movie about the summer of 78, the main theme over the opening credits will be "Baker Street".

We used that version of Rainbow for my son's funeral, during his picture slide-show. I can't stand to hear it on commercials, it makes me so sad.

A lot of songs remind me of color guard, especially I'm Just a Girl. The twilight zone song thingy (du du du du du du) reminds me of riding the Tower of Terror with my guardies (that was one interesting ride). Anything by Aerosmith also reminds me of riding RnRC with my guardies and the band parents.

"Moon River" by Andy Williams makes me think of my grandmother who passed away last July. I've always loved that song, but now it reminds me of a simple, run of the mill day when she and I were sitting at her kitchen table, eating potato soup, and it came on the radio.

Just flipped over to VH1 Classic :thumbsup2 and "Right Here, Right Now" by Jesus Jones is on (well, actually "Rico Suave" was on when I first turned over, but thankfully I have no significant memories associated with that)...RHRN will always remind me of the summer after I graduated HS ('91), driving around in my convertible with my friends. That was a great summer.
