Just curious. I recently got a promotion and am much busier in my new job than I was before. I sometimes just can't wade through and reply to everything during the course of a workday. I find myself lately reading and responding from home at night and at weekends. It just helps and only takes a few minutes without interruptions. So am I the exception or do most people do this?

I do. I also can dial in from home and I do a lot of stuff from home or while waiting for my kids at an activity.

My DH always has. He works out of the house now but even before that he would periodically (sometimes A LOT more) check his blackberry at home at night and on the weekends, responding to emails.

Yep me too!! I only work part time and if I didn't do my emails from home then when I get to the office i'd have close to a 100 to go thru and wouldn't have time to do any of my work.

I do. About 2 months ago I started working from home on Fridays so my company set me up to log in remotely. I've gotten into a routine of checking my e-mails (both personal/home and work) each night after dinner. I love that I can stay on top of things and it's nice to go into the office in the morning and not have any surprises. Well, via e-mail anyway!

Yep! Even get emails on my phone and will often respond while not even home.

I do it too. Sometimes it's easier to get some work done without trying to work while you're doing it. LOL.

I work part-time, but I sometimes need to respond to things that go out on my off days. Also, if something significant happens when I'm off, it's nice to be prepared when I go back.

 I second that thought!

I check email at home too. And log in remotely on occasion.
One thing I've come to learn (at least for myself)... Don't do it on vacation! Especially at Disney!
Work has my cell phone number so if something explodes they can always call me. Otherwise, they can deal. :)

I do answer work emails from home. I don't have to on a daily basis at my current job. However, at my last two jobs I checked my email most evenings as well as daily on any days off. I probably worked at least 10 hours per week from home in addition to my 48-56 hours at the office. Again, that was my last two jobs. My current job does not require me to commit nearly that much off-duty time to the job.

I deal with TV stations from all time zones so yes, I have to deal with the west coast and Hawaii AFTER I get home. Not only emails but they all have my cellphone number.... :scared: ... but it's part of the job.

I do. I am a teacher and often get emails from parents when they get home from work. It only takes me a few minutes and it is worth it to give parents a quick response.

They expect us to answer them from home. At one point they gave everyone a lap top just to have at home for this purpose (and to write reports etc)

Sadly yes.
But I still love my Blackberry!

Once in awhile. I don't get that many work emails to begin with, and those that I do get, often don't require a response. I usually check them first thing in the morning, at lunch, and right before I go home. If I forget to check before I leave, I'll check them at home.

I do not do it, nor am i expected to do it.

Im to the point that work has to stay at work, and if im doing work I want to be paid for it. Even if I were a salaried person again, I wouldnt do it. Too much of my childhood was wasted because my mom couldnt separate work from home and home suffered. I will not do that to my kids.

My dad has always been this way. He is constantly on his blackberry. I can remember one trip where he answered the phone on Splash Mountain! :scared1:

We used to joke all the time that someone that was in a higher position would call him from the restroom and ask my dad how to wipe..Haha :rolleyes1
Its almost like they cant function when my dad is out of the office.. It has gotten much better where his phone isn't always ringing. But again, its part of his job and he deals with people all over the world, so many times the phone has gone off in the middle of the night
