I usually leave $4 per day for two adults staying in the room ...

I do not because we are DVC members and I am doing most of my own cleaning. I will if we get a full cleaning though.

In regular hotel stays I always leave $5.00

I leave about $20 at the end of the vacation if service has been good, which it usually is.

We go for 2 weeks in ths summer. Tipping $5 a day for housekeeping to me is absurd. These aren't waitstaff who work soley on tips. They're paid help.

Tipping on vacation can get ridiculous very fast.

-Shuttle driver to the airport
-Curbside check-in
-Skycap
-Magical Express Driver
-Housekeeping
-Bar Staff
-Wait Staff
-Magic Express Driver back to airport
-Skycap
-Curbside check-in at return
-Shuttle driver back home

It's out of hand. I fully expect to see people start tipping Mickey Mouse at character meals at some point.

I don't leave a dime - already paid quite a bit to go. How Disney chooses to parse that money out to its employees or contract workers is between them, and doesn't involve me.

Nowadays, everyone expects a tip. Sorry, not from me.

I'm DVC too - but I always leave a tip.

Last vacation I left $25.00 (10 day stay - 7 people) - she was very nice and met us at the door when we were "moving in."

She was the same person who cleaned when we arrived, the full cleaning, and the partial cleaning.

If we had stayed in a regular room - I would have done the $5.00 a day rule.......

$5 a day always:thumbsup2

As far as I know room cleaner is not a tipped position. If it is they need to do like on a cruise and bill your room for it up front.

Just advise..... Get a better paying job.:thumbsup2

I brought this up with colleagues who travel extensively and they claim they never leave housekeeping tips, in fact most admitted they'd never even heard of the practice. Hmmmmm.

I do and always have, WDW or not.

daily

I can't imagine cleaning up behind complete strangers day in and day out.

Yeah, I pay a ton of money for our trips. However leaving extra $$$ each day for the person who has to scrub our toilet isn't going to ruin our trip.

That's exactly how I feel. I hate cleaning up after my family and myself - let alone strangers.

They work hard for me - I don't mind tipping.

The only tip I really hate is when you get to the resort - they help put your luggage on that cart - only to wheel it to the storage room...... that seems bogus to me.

How do they explain those little tip envelopes one sees at most hotels?

I'm frankly surprised at the percentage of respondents who do not tip.

And suggesting they get a better paying job is rude at best.l

Nope, never left a tip - and I don't leave streaks or skids in the toilet for them to clean, nor do I vomit all over the room or leave dirty tissues all over. All the maid has to do is replace the towels and make the bed. Doesn't take her more than 5 minutes. IMHO, that is like tipping the counter jockey at McDonalds - overkill.

I used to tip $5/day, every day, including checkout day, until recently. Now I tip $10/day, every day, but I don't tip on the morning of checkout.

ITA.
I am a reasonably-good tipper to those people who work for tips, but I am sick of the tip-entitlement culture in our society. Recently, I had yet another experience with a cashier shaking her tip jar at me at a store. Here's a tip: Bite me.

That is correct -- not at Disney resorts, at least. The resort housekeepers are classified and paid the same as theme park custodians, while employees such as bell staff, valets and restaurant servers, are classified as tipped employees, and compensated based on the expectation that patrons will provide appropriate gratuities.

Wow, I'm kind of embarrassed now, I didn't realize so many people tipped that much. I always just leave $2 a day.
