Do Yankee Candles go off?

I've just found a set of YC votives that I was given last Christmas. There are four different "flavours" in a tube. The problem is that they all smell a bit mentholly (like Tunes). One that wasn't in the tube still smells OK. Do you think the scents will revert to normal when I begin to burn them?

I have never known candles to go off. I have some coconut smelling tealights that have been in a cupboard for a long time and everytime I open the cupboard I get a whaft of coconut. Makes me want to eat a Bounty.

If your candles have gone off and anyone in the house has a cold at least the menthol smell will clear any blocked noses:lmao:

I don't think so Libby, I have had some for over a year and they are fine. :confused3

I wouldn't have thought so Libby, as I have a cupboard with lots of candles in, and the Crimbo ones still have their own fragrance :thumbsup2

I've never known the votives go off either, Libby. I found a plastic tray of them last Christmas that I'd forgotten all about (I think I bought them on hols with DD in Oct 2007) and they were all fine... Try burning one and see what happens...

I'm wondering if the scents have mingled. I've kept other before but never a mixed set. I'll try buring one today and see how I get on.

What are the scents???

Mistletoe, Christmas Cookie, Christmas Eve and Christmas Wreath. But to be honest they all smell a bit Cherry Menthol. I'm beginning to wonder if they're genuine - they were a gift so I've no idea where they came from - the picture labels are a little different to the single Christmas Cookie that I bought for myself but the base labels look the same.

Well, if I remember correctly, Mistletoe and Christmas Wreath are both strong sort of balsamy and pine fragrances so I'm thinking they're just dominating the plastic. I'm crossing my fingers the Christmas Cookie one's OK tho' as that's lovely... Come on, burn 'em! Burn 'em!!!!

I've tried burning the tainted Christmas Cookie for half an hour and it doesn't smell right. Not as mentholly as the raw candle but there are definite menthol undertones.

That's a shame - maybe they're really ancient ones and the plastic wrapping has perished somewhat...? :sad1:

did they have a plush christmas decoration on the top? If so then these are a gift set that Yankee did last christmas.

The reason the labels are different is because they redesigned the votives and these sets were produced to use up the older design labels.

We have had some of these in storage from last year and they are fine when you burn them, sometimes the stronger scents overpower the others. don't worry they will be fine. :goodvibes

Yes exactly like those. I'd forgotten they came with a plush (although the label on the tube says they did) as I would have packed that away with the decorations.

ETA - they're not fine when I burn them, well the Christmas cookie one isn't. I'm going to have to go to the garden centre and find out how the others are meant to smell - cherry menthol stirs up images of damp, dreary, sniffly February not a happy, jolly Christmas. LOL!!
