Do we really need that much light in here?

Apologies up front for this vent...

Last night DH and I went to see Hary Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I had really been looking forward to it and it was a date night night for us. DS is away at camp.

About midway through, this chick 5 rows ahead starts texting on her cell. I know its not a big light but it was distracting, especially since much of the movie is dark scene-wise. Once was bad enough but she proceeded to do it 4 or 5 more times.

Please if its that important that you text, step outside the theatre! I did a couple of my non confrontational but-you-better-clue-in-here-that-you-are-a-pain coughs, but she didn't pick up on it. Too busy reading her incoming messages!

Thanks for the vent release-you may return to your regular Community Board.

Sorry that happened to you. Perhaps you could try a diffferent theatre. Where we go, you can't even tell there are other people IN the theatre unless they are beside you. The seats have really high backs and the slant toward the front is such that no one's view is blocked. It's wonderful and the only way to see films with great visuals. No distractions by moving heads, phones, wiggly children, etc.

We go to the movies alot. I don't think I've been to one in years w/out somebody "playing" with their phone during the movie. I guess they have to be "cool".

I saw WICKED on Broadway & someone near me was texting during the whole show. Pay that much money for "that"....

The movie theater we frequent will ask you to leave if you are texting. I can't understand why someone would pay close to $15 for a ticket and then not pay attention to the movie!

We took our kids, our niece and nephews to the movies once. We had young woman (about 22) behind us with three children. By about 30 minutes into the movie, she had received two phone calls and proceeded to have a nice conversation during our movie. Once was bad, second was more than enough and I told her so. You can always leave the movie and go and complain to the manager if you don't want to confront her. Most people don't realize how distracting, or how bright the light from the phone can be.

We went to see Transformers over the weekend and there were maybe 10 people in the theatre including us. There was a father with his son who was maybe 8 years old sitting in the row in front of us and a few seats to our right. Let me just say this child could not sit still! I know this was an exciting movie, but I don't need your child jumping out of his seat and fist pumping into the air and yelling everytime there was a "fight" in the movie....it was the transformers so this was almost constant! Then the dad starts talking to the screen telling the actors that the bad guys are coming and that they should watch out! I thought my husband was going to lose it! It was the worst movie experience I have been to....except maybe the time that someone asked me to move to a different row so that all her friends could sit together, I'm all for maybe moving a seat or 2 over, but this is why my husband and I get to the movie at least a 1/2 hour early so we can have the last row middle seats....sorry if you show up 5 minutes before the movies starts and you can't all sit together!

We've had to say something to people twice now. One for texting and one for a very loud extended phone call. Note that in both cases, the perps were not teens. The texter was a 40 something year old woman during a romcom and the caller was a guy of retirement age in Public Enemies. The caller had people yelling at him and he didn't even stop when a man went over to him and stood in front of him. He finally stopped when the man poked him in the shoulder and told him he was going to get the manager.

when we went opening night to Harry Potter, I had to keep shushing the man next to DH who apparently brought his wife/girlfriend/date/whatever who had never seen any of the movies thus far to opening night as he spent the ENTIRE movie, explaining to her who everyone was when they popped up on screen and what was going on...after shushing him for a while and it still not working, I said can you please shut up and he quieted down for a full 5 minutes before he started up again ...I just gave up...

Wow, our theatre actually does an announcement before the movie to please turn off your phones.

There is a generation of people who have never lived without cells/texting. It's kind of pathetic that they can't turn it off for a few hours.

It seems that people just don't have any common sense anymore - let alone manners.. Sorry it caused problems for you.. Movie tickets are expensive and you should be able to enjoy a movie without unnecessary distractions..

Yeah, the theatre we go to runs funny movie-shorts with interrupting phones and talking patrons and a crying baby but it's kind of funny...there's always someone around who think it doesn't apply to them.

We were at a movie once (against my better judgement I agreed to go to a horror movie with my husband and adult son) and this man got up and started beating the carp out of the guy behind him for bumping the seat. The police came in and arrested him, leaving his wife/girlfriend and small child behind. The child started crying "daddy" but the woman smacked the boy (he was probably 3 or 4) and told him to quiet down and they stayed for the rest of the movie.

I'm not sure if this is common at horror movies but I stick with chick flicks now.
