No, you don't really have to see the movie to go on the rides.
But I will disagree with the "really not a good movie' opinions... More that it is not some peoples type of movie, which is fine... but that doesn't make it a bad movie. I have no desire to sit down and re-watch a lot of the Disney classics (Bambi, etc) as they put me to sleep.. but there would be torch mob if I said they were't good movies... and it has no effect on me enjoying the parts of those movies at the parks, but I have seen them to know what they are about.
