Do we need birth certificates with us when we check in to fly?

We are leaving today and have 5 birth certicates ready for us and the kids and DL for me and DH. Are the birth certificate necessary to fly? I couldn't find anywhere on the SW website saying what to bring for identification.What about our SS cards? We haven't flown since 9/11 and wasn't sure. Thanks!

Just need photo ID such as a Drivers License

We flew SW last month. All you need is a valid picture ID -- a driver's license is fine. If you're younger than 18, you don't need anything.

Please put your SS cards back too. There is no need to carry them, and I would hate for you to lose them.

I certainly would not be bringing original BCs or SS cards. That being said, my travel induced OCD tends to rear it's head whenever we fly, and I always have a copy of DS's birth certificate with me. He's 8, no one has ever asked to see it, but I always feel better knowing I have it.
