HI- Taking the family on our first Disney Cruise:banana:.. I have cruised in the past with just dh on RCI and did not use a lanyard.. but i was wondering if this is something you think we will need with the kids on the Dream? If so, can you just buy some on the ship? Thanks

All four of my kids used them to keep their key cards in and yes, they sell them on the ship :)

In this case need is more subjective. We bought ours (fraggle rock, smurfs, wonderwoman, pacman, and scooby) at spencers in our mall for $2.99. For us, it made keeping track of who's is who's key situation. We could glance towards the door and see Oh, its DSs' KTTW card in the slot. Just easier in my opinion to keep them handy and straight.

I've never been a fan of lanyards, but I really enjoyed having one for both DD and myself on the cruise.

Ask around. Surely you'll find people who have been at conferences or events and have extras. We found 3 or 4 in our office drawers and used them.

so are these KTTW like the ones you get for WDW? and they have no holes?
I would love for Disney to send me laynards instead of luggage tags, LOL

They don't have holes but some people get them punched on the ship, or bring their own punch. I had a lanyard that had like a ziplock seal, so I could also put our dining tickets in there.

I'm a newbie and I thought I knew what a lanyard was...?

Is it a rope with a clip on the end to hold the KTTW card? Or is it a small wallet?

It's a lanyard with a clear plastic pouch to hold your KTTW card.

On your second and subsequent DCL cruises you will get complimentary ones at check in. There is a whole thread on here about how many some have and what to do with them.

We hate lanyards and never use them. So do you "need" one? Absolutely not. In fact, most people on our cruises do not wear them.

We start off using them but they fall bu the wayside as the week goes by.

If you're not using lanyards, how do your kids keep track of their KTTW cards when you're not together?

And on another note, how do your kids keep track of their Wave phones?

My kids will be 16, 13 and 10 at the time of our cruise. They're not going to hang much with us and pockets on kids' clothes are not deep enough (or don't exist) to trust with such items. I'm sure someone on here has a great solution!

I don't like keeping my KTTW in my pocket so I wear a lanyard during the day but not generally to dinner. I will say that I lost my KTTW card at dinner last cruise because I didn't have my lanyard so could be that statement will change. I do not carry a purse around on the ship either but I do know that some ladies do.

I HATE lanyards!!! First of all, I have a spinal injury & just do not need anything hanging around my neck. Secondly, they RUIN my outfits (ick!)!!!! LOL !!
So, my solution was that I purchased a couple of very small make-up clutches that were really pretty; one is silver sequined & one is black sparkly. They were under $5. each, I think at Target. Perfect for a lady to keep her KTTW card, wave phone, a camera & a lipstick compact. Much smaller & convenient than a purse would have been - and still pretty. Some make-up clutches even have a strap to use as a small evening bag.
That may be a good solution for your 16 & 13 year olds (if they are girls). For a boy - and my hubby - he wore cargo pants & shorts most of the time, so there was no shortage of pockets for his stuff!!

7 DCLs and never used a lanyard. I keep mine in my wallet and DW usually does not carry hers, except when we leave the ship.
