Do we have to rope drop to ride MIckey’s Runaway Railway?

I was just wondering if the wait times ever slow down during the day. Is rope drop the only time it doesn’t have long waits?

We were at WDW in early February. We had park hoppers, but didn’t want to waste an entire day at HS. We park hopped over to HS one evening (I believe it was Thursday) around 5pm. We were able to basically walk on to Toy Story Mania (my favorite), TWICE, then went to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railroad. Even though the posted wait time was 35 minutes, we probably didn’t wait more than 20 minutes to ride.

My experience is that rope drop, unless you're one of the first hundred or so to get in line, will have the longest waits of the day. As the day goes on, line gets shorter. At this moment, wait time is 30 min. So Noon on a Saturday. Logically, from noon to 2pm could be the sweet spot, as the rope drop guests are leaving and the park hoppers can't get in yet. In December, this was definitely the case. Just remember that even though the line looks very long (due to social distancing), it moves continuously, resulting in shorter wait times than it appears.

Are there CMs at the back of the lines nowadays (here and in general) with the signs saying how long the wait is from that point? Or do you just use the app?

CMs are at the end of the line with signs that say "end of the line for *insert ride name here*" but the signs done have the wait time on them. CM will give you their estimate is you ask them. They tend to be pretty accurate, since they have a lot of experience with this. My experience is that the CMs are generally more accurate than the app. YMMV.

How about Slinky Dog does the waits go down later on it?
Slinky definitely goes down as the day goes on but doesn’t get as low as MMRR. During our trip, we rope dropped DHS, stayed til about 11:30, went back to the resort, and then came back around 5:30. The waits mid day were long...

We've been here for the past 8 days. For us, the line wait really drops after 4pm. We rode it several times with waits of 15 minutes or less.

Last week (sold out for all 3 categories) at DHS on Wednesday 3/31 — MMRR was at 45+ minutes all day and then after 3:30/4-ish it dropped to 20, then 15, then 10 when we rode around 5:30. I’m glad I didn’t wait long bc that ride is not good. It doesn’t have a cohesive storyline; only a few animatronics — mostly just artwork. And a few screens. The trackless ride system is cool but this ride is not worth a long wait in my humble opinion. I’m sure others love it, and that’s ok! They can have my seat bc I don’t need to ride it again. ☺️

In our experience in mid-March, most CM at the end of the line had a sign that had the wait time. Generally, it was the same number as the App. We found many (but not all) of those times inflated and relied more on the TP Lines app.

In early November pre plexiglass it was about 70+ minutes all day we waited once because it was our first time (actual wait was about an hour but we had to wait for a cleaning cycle)
In early January post plexiglass it was 45+ most of the day road twice with about a 20-30 min actually wait sadly we got placed in the back both times so our view of the screens was obstructed in spots

I think MMRR usually sees lower wait times at the end of the day. We park hopped one evening and got in line about 1 hour before park close. Wait was about 15 minutes. It's a cute attraction and both me and my partner enjoyed it a lot, but not something I would want to wait 45+ minutes for.

Good luck!

Ok good to know. I think we head to Tower of Terror first.

We tried two different rope drop strategies during our two DHS days the week of 3/15. Both started with drop off at Speeedway at 7:50, walking to DHS and arriving around 8:00. This was right before Skyliner guests started arriving. We were walking into the park by 8:15 right near the front of the line.

First day we went to SDD, MFSM, and TSM before heading to our RoR BG. After that RnR and ToT were about an hour wait. Details can be found here https://www.disboards.com/threads/h...-including-park-hopping.3807247/post-62777865

Second day we went to RnR, ToT (had planned ToT first but it wasn’t quite open when we got there. It opened about 5-10 later), MFSM, and TSM. Then lines got long.

Both days we did MMRR after 5 pm and waited less than 20 min. And of course ended both days with SDD in the dark at park close
