Do We Have To Rent Car From Fly Drive?

Hi

We have booked to go on the 18th October for 2 weeks for a fly drive. We asked the agent to book the full size and platnium insurance that Virgin offer. We have just got the invoice through and noticed they have booked the I4 and no insurance.

Basically what we have paid for is an extra week of £55.00, but no insurance. Now this has been added on can we leave the car at the airport and use another company. Oppodo have given me a much better quote for a 7 seater, which I think we will need considering there will be 2 adults and 3 children who will be 5,2,2.

My husband is worried they will charge us for not using the car.

No you do not have to take the car. I'm a travel agent and when we go on to Virgins system to book flydrives we can just book the included car for the free week and not add on the car for the second week, therefore it doesn't cost anything. That's what I'm looking at doing for my trip next year.

They have added the second week car hire for £55.00 if they cancel that it will cost us £15 to amend it. Really it was their fault in the first place, we would of never thought about changing it if they booked the f4 like we said in the first place.

you certainly don't have to take the car and don't get penalised (I hope I spelt that right) for not doing so, we booked a flydrive for last Aug. and had no intention of collecting car as we could hire cheaper elsewhere and just opted for the free week. We did not hear anything from Virgin re not collecting the vehicle and are doing the same thing next August.

I've done that too.

The only slight hassle is all the Vigin Hols. reps assume you are taking the car from their own little desk and get the hump when you ignore them and go up to either the Dollar or Alamo counter.

Hiring the car elsewhere will save a lot. We used Airline Network last time we had a Virgin Hols. flydrive. This year, though, I booked direct with Dollar uk which offers villa owners and their guests a discount.

We booked and flly drive last trip and didn't pick the car up - and we are doing the same next year. We stay on-site so never have a rental car. The good thing about flydrives is you can book the them further out than 11 months before your trip
