Do Vitamins give you energy?

My Dr. told me that at my age (35) it wouldn't hurt to start taking a viatamin everyday for energy and just overall good health.

I didn't think vitamins gave you energy????

Anyway he didn't give me any suggestions on which vitamin to get and there are a zillion out there.

So,
I'm 35 with a teenager and a baby on the way. I'm a bit overweight (Underactive Thyroid) and healthy other than that.

Any suggestions on which one to buy?
 
I take my Flinstones every day. Since I started taking a daily vitamin I have had less colds and have felt a little perkier.

No, vitamins don't give you more energy.

If you eat a fairly well-balenced diet, you are probably not deficient in any particular vitamin. And the Linus Pauling theory of vitamins preventing the common cold and other illnesses is probably not true.

But if taking a vitamin makes you feel better, go for it!
 
Flinstones, REALLY! How many do adults take?
 

Ehhhh, I take them and I can't say I feel any different. I've taken them for years now because I know I don't get everything I need every day. Not sure about the energy, but it will make your urine a beautiful hue of bright, bright yellow. :thumbsup2

No fairly well balanced diet. Our lives are so busy I do well to eat something really good for me once a week. Hopefully that will change once basketball is over but for now I wouldn't doubt my body needing more of anything that is good for me.
 
Any multivitamin will do. I take Centrum. :)

If you eat a well-balanced diet, getting all your vitamins and minerals in what you eat, you don't need to take supplements. If you don't, you should take the vitamins. :)

You don't need mega-doses, though. You body requires certain amounts. Any extra you give it will either be stored or excreted. Taking extra of any one thing won't help any more than taking the correct amount. It isn't like your body will use the extra, or just let it hang out. :)
 
For energy you want caffeine or guarana.

Vitamins don't provide energy directly, but some do promote the metabolism or the release of energy from food, particularly the B and C vitamins. Vit C helps with absorbtion of iron.

Caffeine may work for some. For others, it has to be donuts. :thumbsup2
 
I take vitamins and they don't give me energy. Exercise gives me energy though.

I compared the labels on my "adult" multi-vitamin and my kids' Flintstones and they were almost exactly the same. ::yes:: I love Flintstone's so when my vitamins are gone I think I'm just going to share with my boys. :rotfl:
 
I felt fantastic when I took prenatal vitamins! So much so that I kept them up for quite a while after I delivered. Eventually, I switched to a multi-vitamin. I couldn't tell a difference in how I felt until I stopped them! I felt so tired without them. But I haven't taken vitamins in ages. The doc said forget a multi because they have vitamin K in there also. Not a good thing for me. I guess I should start searching for something though.
 
Of course! But you need to wash down the donuts with orange juice. To help absorb all that iron, you see. ::yes::

But of course. Iron isn't an issue with me anymore - I get mine thru an IV a few times a month at the Hematologist's.

I took Flintstones vitamins when I was pregnant with my 2nd DD because I couldn't keep prenatal vitamins down. My OB says that something is better than nothing!
 
I can't take reg vitamins so I take OTC pre natals. Reg ones (except for Flintstones) make me really sick. The Dr wanted me off Flinstones cause he said they contained sugar. I also take an extra vit C pill a couple times a week. It seems to have kept me a little healthier this year. :confused3
