do those travel sickness bands that you wear on your wrist also help for Motion Sickness?

Because I would LOVE to ride Mission Space when i come on over back the Back to the future ride makes me feel ill so i am worried that MS is much worse that that.

thanks,

I swear by sea bands. I am the most travel sick person ever (can't travel for more than 15 minutes in a car) and I wear the bands on every ride I go on. I have ridden Mission Space with them on no problem.

When mission space opened I was petrified to go on because people have posted that it is a circular kind of ride and I get motion sickness on things like tea cups. So to prepare for the ride, the night before I took a dramamine (sp?) so that the drowziness would not effect me as much, on the day of the ride I put on the wrist band things and then when I got on the ride I grabbed a motion sickness bag just in case. I was fine and I even rode it this past dec. without any precautions and no problems. Just remember to keep looking straight ahead at all times and do not close your eyes. It is a lot of fun going to mars.

I am the kind of person who will go on anything. I love roller coasters, TOT, anything that's a thrill ride - Except Mission: Space.

I did not anticipate any kind of problem since I ride many thrill rides and I have never had a problem. I took dramamine an hour before riding MS just in case.

Uh, didn't do any good. I stumbled into Mouse Gear after riding and had to sit on the bench by the dressing rooms for an hour! Any time I moved or changed positions on the bench (after riding!) I felt overwhelmingly nauseous. Again, I have never had a problem on any ride in my entire life! I did not close my eyes or move my head at all during the ride (they tell you not to do that or it will heighten the effects of the ride).

Oh, and I still cannot look at Gary Sinise...really, watching CSI: NY commercials makes me queasy :)

(Oh, if you haven't been on the ride, Gary Sinise is in the preshow *shudder*)

FWIW, the Discovery Channel show "Mythbusters" did an episode where they tested non-medicinal methods to prevent motion sickness. Wrist bands failed miserably. The only thing that worked was ginger tablets, according to them.
They did NOT test medicines (e.g. Dramamine, Bonine, etc.).

IME, the Dramamine worked for me on SM. Not so much on M:S but it may have been wearing off by that point.

OK, we just got back from a very cold week in Disney, not complaining!!! I never wanted to ride Mission Space because of all of the horror stories from it! My daughted wanted to ride it and I could not let a 8 year old out do me!! ;) so I was scared but I had to do it. I do not like the tea cups even if we do not spin them, I do not like going round and round! well, I did fine, I do suggest holding your head still up against the head rest.. don't look around, and breath!!! I do not know how to describe the feeling I felt getting off of Mission Space.... The only thing I can say is the back of my head felt heavy!! Give it a try, I think you will be fine! :)

I agree with the post above. Try it either way with or without medicines/wristbands. It's a great experience and if worse comes to worse you get sick or you feel nauseas and you learn that that's not a good ride for you. I know people say the "hate feeling sick for the rest of the day" but that can happen to you if you eat some bad food anyway. :crazy2: Ha ha, sorry just trying to put some different perspectives on things!

Final opinion, TRY IT!

thanks guys - i really want to pluck up the courage to try it - as i am coming all the way from the UK!

I used the wristbands and rode "back to the future" at Universal and they failed me. I was so sick I had to lay on the bench for at least 2 hours while my family went and rode rides. They kept coming back and checked on me. It was the last time I used them. I used to get the patch, which did help me, but stopped using it and stopped riding specific rides. No more simulator rides for me and my family says, no way will I ever survive MS. I can ride SM, ToT, BTMR with no problems. I just rode EE and felt a little dizzy, but did not feel sick.

Seabands did not work for me either. Since then I have gotten a perscription for Scopace for flying. They work awesome. Not sure if doctor would perscrobe for rides though. There is nothuing worse than getting motion sickness at Disney. I hate to say it, but skip the ride. It is just not wrth being sick for 2 hours and missing out on other rides.

I have never tried the wrist bands, but I do use Bonine and it works great. They last 12 hours with one dose. I made it through Mission Space with no problem.
