Do those NY prices seem high?

My WONDERFUL DH booked the cruise for use while I was in class this morning. We assumed it would come in at around $2,000 for a cat 5 knowing DCL's pricing so were happy that we were able to get a cat 5 on a 2 night for $1,520 without insurance or transfers. We live in NJ and don't have to fly which in the long run cuts costs for us so it isn't so bad.

We have taken weekend trips to WDW. With flights, rental car, hotel, park tickets, food and drink we have easily spent $2,000. The way I rationalize it we will have a room in a amazing hotel, entertainment, and all meals for a lesser amount, it's a deal. I don't know if I would fly in and pay that amount or if I would take my family on but for a rare weekend away with just DH it is really worth it. Also, after cruising with RCL we are more than willing to pay more for DCL. There is a reason it costs more.

Here are our numbers -

5nt Canada cruise ($3660 for 2A/2C which includes the 10% OBB discount) + the 2nt nowhere cruise ($2140 for 2A/2C) = $5880 for 7nts in a 9C Oceanview room in July!

For comparison, we'd originally booked Cat 8C oceanview rooms on 7nt Caribbean cruises on the Fantasy in late June and August for around $4400-$4700 for the week, and we're paying $5995 for a 6A verandah on the 7nt Fantasy MV cruise in March over spring break!

We booked the same 9C room for an August 2012 7nt Alaska cruise for $5112 (after 10% rebooking discount.)

Not sure we'll be sticking with the NY cruises, but they're booked for now.

Just hoping someone could help with pricing for the 5/25/2012 8-day out of NYC for 2 adults, 2 kids (5 & 7). I have a 5-day booked out of PC in March but would LOVE to go straight from NYC. Nervous about the price difference even with saving the airfare. Any help is much appreciated!

Our trip is just about $4000 and I estimate $1200-$1300 for JetBlue. I figure we should expect to pay more than that for the longer cruise and with the Park Hopper passes for the day but I'm hoping that it's not too astronomical of a difference! These other postings are making me nervous though! I guess we'll know soon enough.....

For those who would like to sail out of NY and do the Canadian ports but do not want to pay the high Disney prices (which might be us, but we'll still see about booking tomorrow for the July 8 Canada route), please keep in mind that Carnival will send one of its ships to NY to do 4- and 5-night Canadian cruises. The 5-night itineraries are the same as DCL's - Halifax and St. John, and the 4-night itinerary goes to St. John. We did one a few years ago and had fun. It was our first Carnival cruise and we were pleasantly surprised. OK, it is not DCL, especially not in family-friendly entertainment, but it will be about half the cost of a Disney cruise. Camp Carnival is a very good program, and our girls love going on a "Funship Freddie" cruise. Once Carnival announces its program for summer 2012, which should be sometime this month, the reservations folks tell me, we'll reconsider any reservation we have with DCL and decide what works best for us. It's an option to keep open.

I have a 5 day booked Jan 3 in a 6 A that will cost 2800 for 2 A 1 C (11) and 1 C (2). Even considering 1200 for airfare, plus rental car, and hotel pre-cruise the NYC 5 night does not save us any money in a similar room. I haven't seen too many prices for the Sept ones - maybe they would but I doubt it. The price seems kind of unreasonable to me since it is an older ship and the pricing seems just as high if not higher then the new ships.
